Estrelas cadentes não são de fato estrelas, mas sim corpos celestiais (como meteoros ou pedaços de asteroides) que ao atingirem a atmosfera do planeta, numa velocidade média de 250 mil km/h, deixam um rastro luminoso por onde passam ao entrar em combustão. 

Reza a lenda que a crença em fazer pedidos para estrelas cadentes começou na Grécia por volta do ano 150 A.C.

Acreditava-se que a estrela cadente representava o momento exato em que os deuses estavam contemplando a vida na Terra e seria o momento ideal para fazer com que pudessem ouvir e realizar os desejos das pessoas, já que os deuses estariam olhando para nós naquele exato instante.

Essa tradição já dura mais de 2 mil anos.
