WE ARE INSPIRED

The leaves are changing green to brown,
the Summer's packed and leaving town
and Autumn in her Autumn gown
will spill the wine in hoedown.
Smack that thigh, stamp that boot.

and the newbies in full bloom.

And after the fall the snow will fall
and costly frosts will come to call.

DANCING DOUBLE TIME

Hush! No rush. No. No.
I'm in no rush to lose my mind.
But I'd really welcome
a chance to slowly unwind.
I've been trying to find
the other half of me for so long,
my eyes have worn out looking-
worn out looking for you.
Please forgive me if I stare.
You do have the look of someone-
someone intent on getting somewhere.
Why not be kind,
let's fly blind,
buy me a drink and we can share
the inner workings of our minds.

Life's been pretty unfair
ugly in the way of a roller coaster-
I was always more down than up.
Supper in suspect diners.
Then on to something finer-
dinner at the Ritz, posh fish and chips.
Chips lost at the roulette tables.
Seems I was never a lucky lady.
I was never able to match-
never able to catch a bankable lover.
All of those others were rank-
rank outsiders to take me home.
I was always going home alone.

NO RUSH

I'm losing my patience
with crowds of people.
Crowds
have always crowded me out.
No doubt
I've grown very particular.
I don't want to mix with
the circus of strangers-
the clowns who fix everything,
they push people like me around.

A stickler in my ways,
I shall be an individual

I can't stand loud.

or ghastly threads
worn like a shroud.

I don't do drunks.

any boot sale junk.

CROWDS

I have tried.
But so far
I've not expired.
I've parked all my dark thoughts
on a to-do list.

And for the life of me,
I can't fly.
I'm much too heavy
for the updrafts,
too heavy to laugh.
I watch birds do it
absurdly easy.
Moths, butterflies, bees.
Oh, I can't fly—
I'm much too heavy
in my head.

I have stood on top
of very tall buildings,
just taking in the view,
chewing over what to do.
Do I drop?
Or bring a stop
to this obsession with flight?
Do I put aside my wings?
Do I learn to fly tonight?
Will choirs of angels sing?

The choirs of angels sing:
"No one is listening."

being so far down and out,
you being so depressed.
