Seven years ago, four teens from Connecticut first met to form the band that would soon be known as The Verticals. James Hilton (guitar/vocals), Nevan McCann (bass/vocals), Erik Cohen (guitar) and Jimmy Conroy (drums), set out to approach this band seriously. Unable to play bar shows due to their youth and unaware of the lively DIY scene happening around them, the group resorted to booking shows anywhere that would have them, from libraries to frozen yogurt shops, building a tight knit and musically eclectic circle of other teenage bands in the nearby towns. 

Their first single “Murky Green” caught a wave through local high schools in the early days of Soundcloud and show attendance went from the 10s to the 100s over a few months. Following up “Murky Green” with the Under the Water EP, the band had their most active year in 2015, and continued playing shows until members began to graduate high school in 2016, beginning a long period of hiatus. 

Now the band is closer to graduating college than they were to graduating high school when they began, and their occasional reunions are moments of reflection back to a time when every part of making music was new to them. In the spirit of capturing and honoring those memories, The Verticals have gone back into the studio to create Adolescent Again, a four track EP featuring rearranged versions of songs written as teenagers and never officially released. 

Adolescent Again will be self released July 30th, 2021
