The Vir is an American indie-folk band led by singer songwriter Mike Lawson on guitar and vocals. They formed in Virginia Beach in 2014 with William Swafford on drums and Jeff Pierce on bass. Vir, which means man in Latin, was chosen as the group’s name as a reflection of Lawson’s lyrics which often explore the complexities of the human condition. With influences that include John Mayer, Ray LaMontagne, Ben Howard, and John Butler their sound ranges from traditional folk and americana to blues, country, and pop.
