Author Raymond Chandler set his first Marlowe novel, The Big Sleep, in (then) present-day 1936, but who was Marlowe before The Big Sleep? In A Man Named Marlowe, we’ll find out.

It’s a story with an empowered woman, back room deals, gruesome murders, hundreds of thousands of dollars in gold, and two long-dead gunmen who teach us that heroes can live forever.

A Man Named Marlowe: An Original Six-Part Audio Drama

Coming on May 15, 2018: an original audio drama called: A Man Named Marlowe.

Author Raymond Chandler set The Big Sleep, the first of his novels involving famous private detective Philip Marlowe in (then) present-day 1936, but who was Marlowe before The Big Sleep? 

We'll meet Marlowe in 1935, one year before Marlowe was hired by General Sternwood. It's a mystery so hair-raising that it involves a double-crossing friend, a cunning woman, a gangster and his hoods, a wealthy getaway in the San Bernardino Mountains, and two famous bank robbers thought to be long-dead. You'll hear Marlowe younger and less case-hardened than ever before and get insight into what made Marlowe, Marlowe.

Previously on A Man Named Marlowe: After Marlowe’s meeting with nightclub owner and gangster Benny Chance, he drives to his friend Lou’s automat only to find that Lou has been murdered. Marlowe goes to his office building where he finds the elevator boy also dead. In Marlowe’s office is an older man with a gun. The two talk. Afterwards Marlowe drives to Spokane, Washington to try to solve the case. When he gets there, the woman who hired him knocks on his hotel room door. 

In Episode 5, Spokane begins to yield some answers as Marlowe makes a new friend, and pretends to be interested in buying land before getting ambushed.

Previously on A Man Named Marlowe: At 4:30 in the morning the woman who hired Marlowe comes to his hotel room in Spokane. She explains what happened and why she lied to Phillip. Her real name is Janice Thomlinson. Marlowe decides he’s still working for her and will try to protect her against Benny Chance and John Moriarity. She stays in his room overnight. The next day he goes to see William W. Powell Jr. who owns mining property around Spokane. He lies about his reasons for the visit and arranges a meeting with William T. Phillips. Phillips and Marlowe meet at the lobby bar of the Davenport hotel. After the meeting Marlowe goes back up to his room when he’s slugged and knocked out.

In Episode 6, it’s the finale! The Windup… and what a windup!
