With his last EP offering on Keinemusik, &ME displayed himself once again as supplier of anthems that easily reconcile style with general floor purpose. You would think, such an universal and inexhaustible tune as this very “After Dark” can only be a lucky hit. But no, he’s knocking out the classic material just like that. Another example? Catalog number KM028, his brandnew “Trilogy” EP.
The titletrack on A initially places a synth arpeggio behind a kick that in dryness is hardly to excel. The beat of "Trilogy" is then seasoned with rimshot patterns until the saturated bassdrum comes in and paves the way to the dancefloor. &ME even refines his knack for stoic grooves on this jam and once again shows his sure feeling for suitable vocal features. Sabotas croon comes devoid of big gestures and still knows the ropes to appeal to the collective mentality of a clubcrowd.
On the flipside, “Woods” is living up to its name from the very beginning. Woody percussions are thumping within an almost subtropical scenario that’s frequently pervaded by mighty synth clouds. And once again, there’s an arpeggio sneaking in that at some point is taking the lead in this strictly instrumental affair. Add a break building that will educe a floor’s complete euphoric potential without going for the rather mindless escalation and there you have it: a B-side that’s actually more of an A-competitor.

Dutch producer Bas Bron aka Fatima Yamaha has been hammering out quality releases under numerous aliases for more than a decade now. Nevertheless it wasn’t until the 2015 re-issuing of his fourteen-year-old track ‘What’s A Girl To Do’ on Dekmantel Records, that his gush into the underground forefront has now exhilarated his unique talent. Fatima Yamaha starts of the 2017 year of Dekmantel Records with his second EP for the Amsterdam label and ‘Araya’ promises to be a worthy successor of his 2015 success.

The title track ‘Araya’ is the absolute eye catcher of this EP. Already tested in Fatima Yamaha’s highly anticipated live-sets in the last months, with great response, ‘Araya’ is a dramatic curtain raiser that only he can make. Next to that, Bron effectively spills his keen ear for melody on the A-side with his typical electro-funk with ‘Piayes Beach Bar And Grill’. On the flip crystalline synth drops, a classic piano and skipping drums are the main ingredients for ‘Romantic Bureaucracy’.

The mountain peaks were covered in a deep haze, the clouds had returned. In the village below they looked upwards towards the snow glazed peaks, soon they would begin their walk towards the rocky crevasse. The glacier was melting quickly, this was far from paradise. The tour guide Mousso would hopefully lead them to safety but there was little certainty amidst the ranks at present. She packed her gear away and held her breath attempting to reconcile her fate.

Out 4th September on Ransom Note Records, "Pizza Conspiracy" is the second album from Hologram Teen aka Morgane Lhote. Following stints in outfits like The Projects and Garden, Morgane’s first incarnation as a solo artist began five years ago, with Hologram Teen’s superb debut album Between the Funk and the Fear emerging in 2018. Prior to that, she played keyboards in Stereolab during their 1995-2001 imperial phase, with a key role in seminal albums such as Emperor Tomato Ketchup and Dots and Loops. Oh, and a bit of trivia - keen-eyed hip-hop fans might be able to spot Morgane on the cover of Common’s "Electric Circus"...

Three years on from his latest solo outing, Crazy P founder member Chris Todd AKA Hot Toddy returns to House of Disco with a predictably fine four-tracker. Our pick of a very strong bunch is the toughened up, revivalist electrofunk flex of "Wilde Touch", where clipped guitar riffs, crunchy Clavinet lines and colourful melodies ride a rubbery bassline, though the Paper Recordings-era Crazy P deep house/disco fusion of "Still We Are" is almost as impressive. Speaking of Crazy P, lead singer Danielle Moore lends her distinctive vocals to the Imagination-ish Brit-boogie business of "Positive Emotion", while the EP's other track, opener "Synthesize", is a darker and more spaced-out chunk of weighty, bassline-driven nu-boogie goodness.
