Episode 139 : The Path to Normal

Nick welcomes back Jake and Alex back to the show this week! We start off by talking about pro wrestling… yeah, I know right? Jake asks what we’re drinking, and he talks a bit more about Fort Point Beer Co. and how they’re his new fridge beer. Nick rampages on 12oz beers. Nick talks about his birthday week and celebrating with craft beer between Cinderlands brunch and the Foederhouse reopening and Pennsylvania removing some of the more strict restrictions with COVID. Jake shares his experience with California’s COVID restrictions. Alex then shares his experience with a new to the podcast brewery, Mastic Trail Brewing. Nick drops some news about Necromancer and then talks about breweries getting back to service. Alex asks what we think line culture will look like as we start to get back to normal. To wrap up, we hint at things to come, including but not limited to another collab episode with Fueled By Hops at the end of April! Thanks again for listening! We love you, good night!

Beer #2: Stillwater Artisanal Ales - Nutropic IPA with Mango and Passionfruit (6%) Sour feel but not actually a sour. Interesting feel and light drinking. 
Alex researched Stillwater. They don’t have their own brewery but they brew on other people’s systems and can through a Brooklyn establishment who cans and distributes their beer. They’re very in touch with their social media as well, and we love them.
Lustra Day! - The line was INSANE! 400+ people in line before 9 am. The line shares were flowing and Dancing Gnome was on their game! They took care of everyone and they had a surprise tapping of Black Clouds Breakfast which was amazing! Each beer was incredible and worth the time spent in line and the bar was moving smoothly and everyone seemed to be in great spirits. 
We discussed our disgust with line jumpers again. 
We picked up Urban Evidence from Hitchhiker after Lustra Day and it is a killer DIPA.
Alex worked at The 13th Annual North Country Brewfest pouring wine. He got to hangout with a bunch of local, mostly western PA breweries. His favorite of the day was Missing Link from Ellwood City, PA - Tropical Mist IPA
Beer #3: Voodoo Brewing - Unicorn Farts NE IPA (8.2%) This one doesn’t really have enough flavor for as sought after as it was. Its smooth but not a lot of flavor to really keep you interested. 
We’ll be focusing on segments next week and some more broad beer topics with some research done.

Beer #1 (Boston) : Half Acre Vallejo (6.7% IPA) Jake found Half Acre in Boston. Surprise, we’re enamored with the can design. Jake really liked the beer overall
Beer #1 (in the studio) : Fruity Nuggets - 450 North (DDHIPA 7.2% Columbus, IN) Shout out to @kushisforlosers for the hook up with this Hazy IPA from out west. Golden color, fruity nose and a citrusy taste. Alex loves the can design on this one too. 
This week find Nick and Alex at Drag Bingo at Couch Brewery on 9/19 from 7:30-9:30! 
Alex went to the Baja 1000 can release at Couch on Friday. 
Jake is still wanting Backlash Brewing to open! (Here’s a hint: They are doing a soft (extremely soft) open on Thursday 9/20)

Jake had a few beers this week that he never had before. 
We discuss the nuanced style of Oktoberfest biers. 
Beer #2 (in studio) : Glitter Parts Pineapple - Levante Brewing (NEIPA - 7.0%) Alex loves this beer. It tastes like straight up pineapple juice. Nick doesn’t love it.
Nick and Sara’s anniversary took them to a new spot in Lawrenceville called Walter’s Southern Barbecue. Go check these guys out. Amazing food and a great tap list. 
Beer #2 (Boston) : Bright w/ Citra - Treehouse (Citra NEIPA - 7.2%)
Hair watch 2018 is back! Jake has been growing it back out. 
Jake and Nick discuss fall beers/oktoberfest beers.
Beer #3: Purp the Magic Dragon - Burley Oak (Dragonfruit/Stone Fruit Sour Ale 4.4%) Super sour and very juicy. Easy drinking and not much alcohol taste due to the light ABV.  
Jake plays devil’s advocate and wants to see the bubble burst and craft beer growth will settle out. 
We also hit on beer sitting on a shelf and not getting the product that the brewery wants you to have.
