It's hard to put into words exactly what Dal Ocal is and has become in what was it's 4th edition..

To put it simply, it's a private gathering of close friends that come together and build a small festival for each other on beautiful, sacred Australian bushland, so that they can frolic, play, laugh, cry, dance, connect & much much more.

It truly is a magical 5 days that we spend together co-creating with the purest intentions.

This set was recorded from 9:30-10:30pm on NYE. It was an absolute pleasure to share music at this time and build towards bringing in the new year.

Our next guest has nearly 20 years experience in all things Techno in Melbourne, Australia, Ranjit Nijjer has truly carved out his own unique piece of the city’s landscape as a promoter, DJ and more recently as a producer. His event Technoir has become an institution in Melbourne; an important Techno destination over its life of over 19 years, showcasing home made talent from across the full spectrum of Techno.
Ranjit’s DJ sets are full of energy and a delicate intensity, as he expertly layers and weaves high volumes of tracks to create a truly distinctive dance floor experience for Techno fans both young and old.
Whether it is deep, hypnotic, ethereal rhythms or relentless, pounding harder sounds (often tinged with his special brand of funk), Ranjit gives the dancefloor and the listener his all.
This passion and care has seen Ranjit consistently booked around town for many years now, including several appearances at the acclaimed Rainbow Serpent Festival.
2020 saw Ranjit begin releasing his own music, with multiple EPs on Australian Techno imprint ‘Machine’ and very quickly he has found himself with tracks on labels around the world, including an LP on Spanish Label ‘Diffuse Reality’.

Torü Szafar [ @toruszafar ] is an Australian DJ and producer renowned for his ability to merge deep grooves that sway the hips with morphing layers that bend the mind.

With over 7 years of experience in the industry, Torü has graced the stages of Naarm/Melbourne's vibrant club nights and festivals (also formerly as part of duo - fütwerk), supporting top artists with his hypnotic rhythms and ethereal melodies. Now based near Byron Bay, Torü is already making waves in the area being booked for various local festivals and club-shows. He is motivated to continue infusing the coastal scene with quality sounds and his unique blend of frequencies.

Inspired by his natural surroundings, Torü's music reflects the beauty and energy of the Australian landscape. His recent venture, Zanda Rec, a record label and event series, promises to champion emerging talent and push the boundaries of electronic music further, reflecting Torü's unwavering commitment to innovation and sonic exploration.

Following up his debut solo release last year on Portuguese label @frequencia-introspectiva, Torü's next release sees him releasing another single on a compilation for another Portuguese label, @atmos_lab. This tribal, deep hypnotic techno groover will be out in the next month!

Currently he is in the studio finishing up the debut release for his own imprint, Zanda Rec. This is set to be a 6 track EP, with 4 originals and 2 remixes.

In the events space, after a successful launch party for Zanda in Feb this year, Torü has just launched his next event which is a collaboration with friend and fellow DJ/Producer Davi Bangma. This will be taking place on Saturday May 11 in the hinterland of Byron Bay and feature Davi and Torü on the lineup!

DJ, radio host and music critic Abhi Meer’s mix for Wild City might be our most dramatic one yet. Peppered generously with riveting moments, the mix is an auditory equivalent of a consolidated epic thriller. 

Abhi Meer has a reputation for approaching his sets with a research-like approach. Consequently, the boxout.fm regular has had the privilege of playing at club gigs, festivals and residencies around the world, including the first Boiler Room party in New Delhi.

While some mixes aim for the dancefloor experience and others for passive listening, our latest mix demands – or rather, steals – your attention with its stirring moments. The first of such moments is employed to grip you from the get-go, as the bright mood of The Smith Connection’s R&B hit ‘Under My Wings’ slows down, in the gimmicky (and we consider it a positive thing) fashion of an interrupted vinyl playback, to make way for LORN’s colder electronic sounds in ‘Kold Mirage’. 

Throwing in outlandish selections with Caterina Barbieri’s ‘Pinnacles Of You’ and the jarring piano strikes in ‘Arrows Of Time’, Abhi Meer engages the listener with off-kilter tracks that punctuate seamless blends of genres, traversing through bass, IDM, dubstep and beyond. Meanwhile, the rhythmic onslaught of Rainer Veil’s ‘Element’ catching us off guard as we give in to the calming harmonies of Lifted’s ‘Near Future’, goes down as our favourite moment; it’s the perfect example of the undulating respite and thrill in Abhi Meer’s narrative. If such a selection was to be mixed live, we imagine the best way to take it all in wouldn’t be through the dancefloor but by having the listeners seated down – as if watching a theatrical performance unfold, or a work of meticulous musical storytelling.
