An Industrial Birdsong

Who remembers when the Year 2000 was the future and the world was going to be so advanced, and we'd all have jetpacks and stuff?

Let's take a look at stone age man
He's cracking skulls whenever he can
I think you'll find
That this cave is mine
Oh it's been the same since time began

Those middle ages were as dark as night
And those barbarians knew how to fight
Never holding back 
With their battle axe
But they never knew wrong from right

Thank God we live in the future
Ain't modern times just so great
Now there's no more war
And no one's poor
Thank God we learned from our mistakes

Old King Louis thought he'd got it made
Living it large while the people paid
And we won't forget
His Marie Antoinette
How they lost their heads to the flashing blade

In the mud and mire in the bloody Somme
The generals knew that they'd got it wrong
In a day fifty thousand gone
Did all again before too long

Oh you can bet in the year 2000
If we suppose that we're still around then
There'll be no disease
And the world will see
That all that history will astound them
