Osteotome is the first release from the audio team of They Came from Hell (Philippe Gerber and Chris Gilmore). The two-track release, with each composer contributing a track, was conceived as a way to feature some of the sounds from their latest sample library, Symphysiotomy. Sticking to their ethos to create the sounds of the horrific, the supernatural, the nightmarish, the dreadful and the ghostly, Osteotome more than delivers. Chris Gilmore’s track ‘Excision’ marries sinister strings, dark drones as well as plenty of sounds from Symphysiotomy to create a nightmarish and foreboding track. Philippe Gerber’s track, ‘The Bone Cutter’, spends its 2:30 runtime ratcheting up the tension but never releases it. Layer by layer, droning synths and his signature use of percussion build into a dense, oppressive and claustrophobic track.

Obstetrics is the new EP from They Came From Hell (Philippe Gerber and Chris Gilmore). It follows their previous release, ‘Osteotome’ and like ‘Osteotome’ the two-tracks feature sounds from their sample library, ‘Symphysiotomy’. The two-track release features one track from each of the composers. Obstetrics builds on the foundation of Osteotome, with each composer going darker, noisier and more fantastical with their tracks. Chris Gilmore’s track ‘Gas, Air, and Injection’ takes a dark melody and twists it into a creepy and sinister track. Midway through the track, the tension is momentarily lifted only to have all hope extinguished by the return of the dark melody and the more sinister elements heard earlier in the track. Philippe Gerber’s track, ‘Ridge Spreader’, is a two minute and 39 second sonic nightmare. Taking you on a trip through your darkest and bleakest fears, ‘Ridge Spreader’ is a foreboding and relentless soundscape built upon a pulsing undercurrent, harsh and droning synths, and pounding drums.

Knife and Saw

Obstructed is the latest EP from They Came from Hell, composers/sound-designers Philippe Gerber and Chris Gilmore. The EP marks the final chapter of releases built around their ‘Symphysiotomy’ sample library. They have previously released two EP’s ‘Osteotome’ and ‘Obstetrics’. The two-track release features one track from each of the composers. Chris Gilmore’s track, ‘The Fruit for The Tree’ is a dark orchestral affair. A simple piano melody is framed by an ominous and foreboding soundscape. As the track develops more and more industrial elements are added along with harsh strings and dark brass. Philippe Gerber’s track, ‘The Barbarian’ sees him utilize what appears to be a heavily processed choir to great effect. The “choir” sets you up for a track that ultimately goes far and away from those opening “voices''. After that moment of light, Gerber then drags that choir straight to the depths of hell, from which they will never be seen or heard from again.

Chris Gilmore - The Fruit For The Tree

At Home With Monsters is the latest soundtrack from the composing/sound-design duo of Philippe Gerber and Chris Gilmore; collectively known as They Came From Hell. The soundtrack ‘At Home With Monsters’ is the score to an imaginary horror movie. Opening with the first of two pieces by Chris Gilmore, ‘The Caretaker’ is a slowly unfolding composition that introduces us to the residents of the home. Mournful strings set the mood and the piece’s slow burn adds to the very dark and horror inspired feel.  Next we meet ‘The Martyr’, the first of back to back Philippe Gerber’s pieces. Bringing forth what lurks in the shadows, it’s dark, and it’s creepy, never letting you feel at ease. Invulnerable, Philippe Gerber’s final piece, keeps the tension levels high with drums and dark synths building a foreboding atmosphere. Finally we meet ‘Tragedy’, Chris Gilmore’s relentless piece that finishes the soundtrack with a decidedly dark and epic orchestral flourish.
