The Chemical Worker’s Song tells of the appalling conditions that Teessiders endured whilst working at ICI.  It was written by one of our heroes Ron Angel who ran Stockton Folk Club for decades. He gave us the confidence to sing together for the first time and gave us our first booking (and our name!).  Ron’s songs have travelled the world.

The Battle of Stockton started when Oswald Mosley tried to bring fascism to Teesside. On 10th September 1933 100 Blackshirt fascists were bussed in from Manchester and Newcastle to persuade the hungry, unemployed people of Stockton to come under the black cloud.  They marched triumphantly across the river Tees not knowing that 2000 people were waiting to chase them back again.  It was this forgotten piece of Teesside defiance that inspired the name of the album.

Harbour Voice was inspired by a thank you card I received from a group of primary school children after working on a community song writing project in Hartlepool.  There was a picture of a little harbour and a caption that read “the lights twinkle brightly, calling us to dream”.
