Sometimes the right things just fall into the right place and so it happened with an old track by Thomas P. Heckmann under his Drax disguise, named Section 2. Originally released as Techno’s first ever 7inch, it was very popular in 1993 and paved the way for the huge follow ups like Drax Three -Phosphene and the hugely influential and successful Drax LTD.II - Amphetamine.

Hat trick, noun, “three successes of the same kind within a limited period.” That, dear friends, seems like a suitable summary of this here Selador Showcase 19…and if part one was a rasping right foot drive and part two a sweet left foot volley, part three is undoubtedly the unstoppable bullet header that makes it not just a hat trick, but the proverbial ‘perfect’ iteration thereof. District One kick things off as Fenckler treats us to a real percussive workout from the start, quickly working in hypnotic synth elements. A real groove laden track, Fenckler lets the drums do the talking on this one as a solid tool 

With District Two, Fenckler goes to the roots and whips out classic 909 drum sounds as the basis for the flip side to the ep. Gradually working in each percussive element, the track builds quickly into a real powerhouse. 

Fenckler is quickly earning his stripes here at Soma as he builds his profile into one of our most profile artists.

This week's Debut, and penultimate instalment of our 50WEAPONS Debut series, comes from L.A. native, Truncate (also known as Audio Injection). First dropped as part of Function's Berghain '07 mix, "86" compressed kickdrum and creeping, cyclical synths building up to a climax in typical Truncate style. On catalogue number #048, Truncate is joined by fellow driving force of contemporary techno, Benjamin Damage, whose A-side complements "86" in its acid-inflected, groove-tinted techno track, "Battle".

German duo Obscure Shape & SHDW drop three robust Techno tracks in their first full release on Rekids this May.

One of the most exciting acts in Techno today, Obscure Shape & SHDW are the founders of From Another Mind - the label and party series making waves in South-Germany. Aside from Rekids, where they remixed Radio Slave’s ‘Vision’ last year, the pair’s abilities in the studio have seen them invited by Slam for two separate remixes of Monoloc and Envoy on Soma, with more projects to be announced.

‘Himmel Und Erde’ is a cavernous cut boasting colossal kicks and skipping percussion before a tantalising melody comes into play. ‘Am Ende Der Welt’ is more deep and atmospheric in comparison, blending dusky percussion with echoing synths until ‘Gefallene Engel’ demonstrates syncopated drums and an otherworldly hook that conjure up a mesmerising aesthetic to conclude the release.
