The Blue Dream shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) is a freshwater invertebrate originally native to the streams, rivers, and ponds of Taiwan. In its natural environment, this small shrimp inhabits shallow waters rich in vegetation, where it finds both shelter and a supply of biofilm and algae to graze on.

It is recognized for its elegant blue coloration, which can vary from translucent sapphire to deep cobalt tones, sometimes displaying iridescent highlights under the light. This hue not only enhances its beauty but also helps it blend into aquatic surroundings while remaining active and visible in motion.

Reaching about 2.5 to 3 cm in length, the Blue Dream shrimp is a peaceful species that thrives in groups. It plays a valuable ecological role by feeding on algae and organic detritus, contributing to the balance and clarity of its freshwater habitat.

It favors stable, clean waters with moderate temperatures and a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Its life cycle is direct: females carry fertilized eggs beneath their abdomen until the young hatch, appearing as tiny, fully formed replicas of the adults.

The Blue Dream shrimp stands out as one of Taiwan’s most delicate and colorful freshwater species, a small jewel of its native ecosystems.
