THE THIRD EYE CAFÉ
INTRODUCTION
The Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul said in 1920:
"In time to come the value of the combination of music, chanting, and rhythmic
movement will be comprehended, and it will be utilized for the achieving of certain
results. Groups of people will gather together to study the creative effects, or the
purificatory efficacy of ordered sound joined to movement and unity..." *
This play was written with that end in mind: it should have a purificatory effect on the
performers and the audience. Although it is written for the commercial Occidental stage
with slide projections, revolving stages, and flyaway scenery, it can be adapted for
school, community, and village theatre groups with a little imagination. The story is
fictional, but it is based on the author's experiences at The Third Eye Cafe in Vientiane,
Laos, in the late 1960s. Should any of the author's friends recognize themselves in the
play, it is hoped that the portrayal is accurate and inoffensive.
