Noch gar nicht so lange im Game und trotzdem schon ein echtes Schwergewicht in der Underground Rap Szene - der neue Podcast kommt von KevinTheCreep aus LA. Er ist vor allem als Produzent bekannt, der nebenbei das Label SIC Records betreibt, das jedem halbwegs herzblütigen HipHop-Head mittlerweile ein Begriff sein sollte. Allein auf seiner Bandcamp Page (Link unten) finden sich knapp 40 Releases aus den letzten 5 Jahren (die meisten davon kostenlos downloadbar), dazu kommt der nochmal größere SIC Records Katalog mit zahllosen Compilations, einige Tapes auf For The Slab Records und die Tracks, die er für andere Rapper produziert hat. Kevin ist also nicht nur ziemlich hart sondern vor allem auch konstant am grinden. War sein Sound anfangs noch stark von Metal, Punk und Noise beinflusst, bewegte er sich dann hin zu House, Jungle und einem klassischen, dreckigen und kompakten Memphis Sound, wie ihn schon Three 6 Mafia geprägt haben und der über die letzen Jahre wieder häufiger zu hören ist. Mittlerweile ist er mit seinem Sound aus dem Süden noch mehr in Richtung Westen gezogen und widmet sich gerade den alten Gangsta-Rap Klängen, wie sie schon Snopp Dogg aus tiefergelegten Caddys erklingen ließ. Dazu kommen viele Samples und Einflüsse aus einem reichen Katalog von Soul-, Funk- und Jazzmusik. Veröffentlich wird das Ganze nicht nur digital oder auf Vinyl, er und sein Label widmen sich mit Herzblut der Tape-Release Kultur. Ihr merkt schon, da ist uns ein dicker Fisch in's Netz gegangen.
