Last year, visual artist and prolific musician Reuben Sawyer (The Column, Window, Human Trophy...) introduced the world to the sound of Anytime Cowboy, his electrified take on weirdo pop with a country twist.

Within a few months of existence, he released a full debut album
(Anytime Cowboy, February 2020) and an EP (Damaged Brain, October 2020), guiding the listener through the deranged and often comical landscape of American culture with his atypical bedroom-bright but sort of morbid post-punk.

Anytime Cowboy is now back with the infectious new album “Bug Bite”, a collection of twelve songs continuing his quirky and malicious foray into rock music.

Maurice Business, a man of many good traits, shares stories of his life from an unclassifiable era. His melancholy lyrics, laced with a dark humour, hold a personal insight into his own bleached mind, touching on betrayal, tragedies and stupidity.

After the release in 2020 of a debut EP via australian tastemakers Burning Rose, Mr Business finds himself lost yet again in another portal, this one leading to the lands of ‘Stock Market Rhythms’, trapped inside another flesh suit in wall street, what’s really going through their head and how did they get there ?

“Stock Market Rhythms” channels through this energy to bring you four fabulous tales of what is in the mind of one of these creatures.

After a heavy regimen of touring both domestically and abroad, followed by two years of a global pandemic, Los Angeles' Numb.er is back with the biting new single, “Congratulations; Stay Safe.” The song is an honest, acerbic look at outward perceptions and the inner turmoil that often lies just beneath the surface. Written during a particularly dark period for Fribourg in 2019, “Congratulations” examines the sense of alienation he experienced being surrounded by people who failed to recognize his internal struggles. While friends and family were saying “congratulations” for his perceived stability and success, Fribourg developed a more appropriate mantra for that dangerously spiraling version of himself: “stay safe.”

DSM-V is a project based between Melbourne and Sydney, consisting of Marc Dwyer (Buzz Kull) and Morgan Wright (Burning Rose Records, Pelvis Records). After sharing the stage with their respective acts, the pair started to collaborate and record what would become DSM-V.

This first release from DSM-V traverses the usual EBM / Nu Beat tropes by including elements of hard dance and post-punk. Sounds you can blast on a club soundsystem or on speakers at home.

The band derives its name from the Diagnostic Statics Manual Revision number 5.

Evil House Party is the new project of Emma Acs & Jacob Formann (Communions, Mini Esco), initiated after playing a string of shows together with First Hate in the summer 2019.

Their sound can be described as messy, dark and vibrant but somehow still captures the restless summer of swimming in the harbour and endless partying that was the time the band was created. It’s rich in attitude in a way that can be familiar with both rock n’ roll and eurodance.

The debut single ‘Wicked’ features a modern murderous ballad fleshed out in a bittersweet revenge pop anthem.

The Great Vague is an ode to all the music that is now extinct and an ode to all the music that is yet to be born. Still, the music sounds as if it exists on the cusp of a continual now: hypermodern avantgarde electronics blend characteristic, disjointed breakbeats with deconstructed shoegaze, all underpinned by the transcendent sensibilities of devotional music in the vain of Iasos and Matthewdavid’s Mindflight.

On opener and title track, The Great Vague, we’re raised to euphoric heights through a melancholy filter - the ecstasy is somehow realist but no less romantic for it; the bittersweet knowledge of the temporal coupled with a sense of longing; a nostalgia for the present. Where the first half of the track might find itself on the dancefloor, the second half has closed its eyes. The synthetic kick is replaced by a heartbeat (Tettix Hexer’s own) that roots the entire track before an arpeggiated synth spirals in an outward and upward direction. Synths take on qualities of the human voice, and tape delays flutter; seaweed in motion, everything blacklit.

Later, Venhændelse feels like soaring above the clouds, fog and moisture softening the sounds of the city; accentuating other, mechanical sounds that are caught upwind. Club sensibilities are rendered entirely devotional. It’s connected to the city, but it’s beautiful; transcendent. Visible Winds of Spring is sight obscured, but proprioception ensuring that your physical movement is graceful; light- and sure-footedness set to breakbeats and Fruity Loops-sounding bass. VWoS sounds like a windscreen while it rains, tears refracting street lights, or fireworks reflected in a pond of oily water.

Nested somewhere between Stars of the Lid and Boards of Canada, the opening notes of Lidless Sleep feel like a memory that loops and loops; you can’t stop reliving and revising the same situation again and again. Instead of forcing it away; it becomes richer, comes closer with each thematic repetition. The beat adds a feeling of determination and it feels like memory is being worked through - dealt with and digested.

It's a visual and resonant journey, The Great Vague, and a colourful introduction to one of Denmark’s finest electronic producers.

Originally released on March 27th 2020 on digital via Janushoved and The Big Oil Recording Company. This present vinyl release is a collaborative effort between The Big Oil Recording Company and Third Coming.
