'Off The Beaten Track' is the debut single from enigmatic artist and producer, Chet Sounds. Most recognised for his contributions to Sydney psych-folk outfit The Uplifting Bell Ends. Similar to the Bell Ends, Chet’s creations have a timeless nature, with noticeable shades of 70’s classic rock, folk and psychedelia.

Chet’s forthcoming self-titled debut album is the perfect passage to his own hyper-creative mind with 13 tracks of DIY psychedelic folk music made entirely in a 1970’s caravan.

The first remix to be shared from the EP is Traffik Island’s take on ‘Above The Clouds’, out November 4th. Traffik Island is the moniker of prolific musician and producer, Zak Olsen (Frowning Clouds, ORB, Hierophants). The ‘Above The Clouds’ remix sees Zak deconstruct the song into a whole new form with a sampled beat underneath the repeated French dialogue of Minnie Coates — what was a peripheral lyric of the original song, now becoming the focus.

‘Silver Spring’ is the third single from the five-piece following their explosive debut ‘Memory Loop’, released in November 2020, and cosmic follow-up ‘DYNA’, released earlier this year. Exuding the same driving pace and kinetic energy as their previous offerings, ‘Silver Spring’ introduces a slightly darker undertone to the band’s repertoire, tackling themes of internal struggle head-on.

From its opening seconds, ‘Silver Spring’ creates a luminous atmosphere, with warped, fuzzy guitars giving way to shimmering sequencers. The track comes in hard and doesn’t let up, radiating a sense of optimism with its relentless beat and reverberant vocals. The accompanying video, created by Joe Agius (RINSE, Hatchie), mirrors this feeling, with lo-fi textures and dreamy landscapes.

It’s been nearly a year since we were introduced to Gimmy Flowens — the bold new solo venture from The Oogars vocalist, Gemma Owens. While her debut single ‘Away For A While’ led us to expect more enchanting folk songs, Gimmy’s new single ‘Don’t Be Afraid’ shows us a vibrant new sound and look from the Northern Rivers-based artist.

Gimmy Flowens’ second single hits us with a fresh garage rock energy and a strong pulse, but don’t expect your typical rock tune as Gimmy’s unique vocal melody, dynamic range and storytelling is what really hooks you in. The track is about the intimate inner dialogue of our minds, experiencing feelings of self doubt and self empowerment in different aspects of life.

Self-described as Funk-Infused Psychedelia, ‘Ex Sherpa’ runs for around five and half minutes and leads the listener up into high altitude with grooving electric piano stabs, flowing vocal melodies and thumping Manchester drum patterns. Once again the band has re-emerged, this time from involuntary hiatus, delivering the reintroduction we all needed through a meditation on Eastern vs Western thought and the connected nature of the inner and outside world.

Following the unexpected acclaim from his charming lo-fi 2019 debut album, Banana Sludge followed by a successful debut tour of Australia’s east coast and supporting California’s Allah Las on their 2020 New Zealand tour, Joe Ghatt excitedly got to work on his follow up record — a process that became a 3 year journey, battling the isolation of Covid-19 lockdowns and a whole new direction in sound and production.

The new album entitled Caper is finally ready for its reveal with the release of lead single ‘Always Remember’, which sees the talented kiwi composer creating his most energetic song to date, with its uptempo drums and bass groove, layers of percussion and rhythmic electric guitar, paired with Joe’s breathy melodic vocals and enchanting flute echoing throughout. The 4:52 track is a cleverly arranged and dynamic jam, where Joe Ghatt brings certain instruments to the surface at different moments, making full use of stereo sound.
