Turbo Recordings is humbled to present this lovingly rendered reissue of Neutron 9000’s lost ambient trance classic. Composed and recorded at London’s Orinoco Studios in 1994 by Dominic Woosey, Lady Burning Sky was originally released on the legendary UK label Rising High.

Turbo prides itself on living in the moment and fighting for the future, and this rare excursion into the past is arguably the most forward-looking release of the next five years. To learn how this is possible, we sat down with label owner Tiga, for whom this represents a true passion project.

Why a reissue?

I live my life with no regrets. That said, I do see the value in righting the wrongs of history and shining a light on music that hasn’t received the recognition it deserves. I’ve never met anyone who knows Lady Burning Sky, and it'’s usually the first thing I ask as a way of establishing dominance. This album has been a constant companion of mine for decades, and it’s high time others got in on that companionship.

What is your history with Neutron 9000?

I met Dominic Woosey on my first trip on my own to Europe. Yeah, I was a Eurail Kid, stowing away in sleeper cars and riding the winds of culture across the continent. I got Dominic’s number through a mutual friend, and when I met up with him in Berlin. he instantly became the coolest person I had ever met, which is crazy when you consider I grew up in Quebec. It was like I had fallen in with Berlin techno royalty, an eager young squire getting my first glimpse of a kingdom I had no idea existed.

What was so special about him?

He was the only person I knew who was into early trance, but he wasn’t a new age hippie. He was aloof. He was witty. He took the piss. And this album reflects that. It’s like hardcore ambient. It is distinctly not about peace, love, and unity, and that made a real impression on me.

The album originally came out on Rising High, which was my favorite label at the time. And while a lot of early 90s stuff has been revived, this hasn’t. There simply aren’t that many albums this good that have remained largely unknown.

Why is this such an important release for you?

Ambient has perhaps the lowest bar to clear in all of music, and Lady Burning Sky stands out as a real record by a real multidimensional artist, something no one else could have made. As someone who chilled out super fucking hard throughout the 90s, I can say with full confidence that it is a true anomaly in the genre, as tangibly great a the best pop and dance music. It was made with a real record company budget, but is completely uncompromising and uncommercial. This album should not exist, but it does. And you should not be hearing it, yet you are. I once said that real art is a celebration of the impossible. That sounded great at the time, and now it rings truer than ever as you come to realize this secret flame has endured all along. A lifetime burning doing the neutron dance.

Danish producer and DJ Kasper Bjørke just released his balearic and 90s dream house infused studio album “Sprinkles” this summer - and now Kasper has invited a bunch of exciting artists from around the world to remix some of the tracks taken from the album. 

Swedish rising star Storken (the man behind the synth banger “Lille Vals” on Running Back) expands “Kites” in his Retro Jungle Mix, reimagining the airy Balearic flute tune, into a proper party jam 
with shuffling drums and his signature synthesizer themes. 

Italy’s duo Phunkadelica (Correspondant, Exploited) brings a different take on “Biarritzs” shuffling drums, with a newfound Kraftwerk vibe and futuristic undertones. 

All the way from New Zealand, hot stuff producer Eden Burns has remixed “Running”, enhancing it with italo sounds and disco lasers. 
Germany’s iconic Roman Flügel transports “Baybi” onto the main floor while twisting the tongue in cheek synthetic saxophone theme. 
One of the finest frontrunners on the British rave scene 1-800 Girls, has crafted a celestial remix of “Glassy”, where tingling emotional textures serve as the glue holding everything together. 

“Mirage” was already one of the most upbeat tracks on “Sprinkles”- but Boys’ Shorts (Vangelis (LAGASTA) and Tareq) have turned it into an explosive dance anthem.

Finally, the young, Copenhagen based DJ, producer and label owner Prom Night has done a eclectic and tropical percussion infused take on “Grace” that many selectors will find to be a perfect opener for any given night... 

If “Sprinkles” is fitting for an afternoon poolparty, “Sprinkles Nite Mixes” thrives when the lights go down and club fills with strobe lights, smoke, and beautiful strangers, eager to celebrate life. Even though only half of the tracks from the original album are remixed here, the running time is doubled and the vibe entirely anew, making this a full-fledged LP release from one of Scandivanias finest exports in electronic music. 

Sprinkles Nite Mixes will be out November 12th, just as people are finally back on the dance floors.

You can always count on Kotelett to serve up some vibrant melodic monsters, and the follow-up to his acclaimed ‘Lifted’ EP for Exploited Ghetto is now here. Three new gems. Three new weapons for your crate.
‘I Got Something For You’ typifies his less-is-more approach, taking just a few key elements and squeezing every last drop of energy from them. The focal point is the pumping arpeggiated bassline which could be equally at home in an electro or psy trance banger. Its rising melodic progression gives the track a feel that’s somewhere between euphoric and dark, and with the pitter-patter of his shuffling hi-hats and succinct synth hooks including cute 8-bit blasts supporting the weight of the b-line, he concocts a sleek dancefloor juggernaut.
‘La Metta’ thrusts along at a more urgent pace, with heavenly ‘80s synth pads building the vibe over an incessant bassline melody. The retro feel is continued by a sprightly detuned lead line and a cute percussive, pitch-bending riff, but the rug is yanked from under our feet by an intensely atmospheric, tense, dramatic breakdown. This moment of intensity breaks up the track beautifully, giving the lead line a renewed intensity upon its return.
The EP is completed by the electro-disco bounce of ‘Prism’, complete with cheeky cowbell and synth-tom fills. The bouncing bassline is complemented by ascending and descending melodic scales, and a breakdown that sounds like R2D2 malfunctioning in rhythmic fashion. The elastic groove keeps you nodding your head throughout and a sparse percussive arrangement lets the synth magic intensify from all angles.
