Giovanni Isgrò aka Maple Juice is a Dj, producer and sound engineer based in Milan.
His musical inspirations, in a nutshell, stat from artists like Prokofiev and Satie, pass through all the black culture of the Delta, dive deep into the sound of the 70’s (especially '74 - '77 dirty grooves, sometimes '78), and end up with the latest dances of Chicago and Detroit.
His djsets range from Soul, Undergound Disco and Boogie Funk to Hip Hop, Ghetto House and Footwork.
Lately he has been performing a bouncy live set with MPC and other gears. The production is a blend of sampled grooves, odd drum machines, and different styles of synths.

New York’s Kim Anh launches her CAN U NOT TALK label this January.

American artist and producer Kim Anh has been making musical waves for the last decade. Once dubbed LA’s “Club Queen” by Vice during her stint living in the city, she has been an ardent supporter of the underground queer club scene. In addition to club residencies and events hosting, she has made her mark as a recording artist with appearances on revered labels such as International Deejay Gigolo Records and Robert Johnson Live. Now based in New York City, she looks to instil her wealth of experience in creating a new label with a mission to contribute to music culture and support underrepresented artists.

The cheekily titled CAN U NOT TALK kicks off in the new year with a four-track EP from Kim Anh herself, backed with a remix from Chicago’s Alinka. Hypnotic title track ‘After Dark’ opens the EP with Kim Anh’s mesmerising vocals front and centre before giving way to the acid-tinged excellence of ‘House of Virgo’. The downtempo and euphoric ‘Giving’ shows the breadth of Kim Anh’s sonic palette whilst ‘Recovering’ provides a beautiful rendition of an Erykah Badu track, replete with an old school jungle twist.

Preceded by scene staples Roy Davis Jr. and The Juan MacLean, who remixed Kim’s previous EP’s, Alinka picks up the torch to deliver a chuggy Chicago House remix of ‘Recovering’. A further remix EP is planned for later in 2022 with a host of respected artists.

Coral City Records return early in 2022 with an excellent release. N&W are on duty again here with three stand-out records. ‘Rave’ the A-Side is exactly what it says on the tin. It’s 808 State meets Larry Heard with a touch of Inner City. Stripped down and four to floor. Classic Roland 909 drums are met with a hook that shakes any dancefloor.

‘Speed’ is a killer Nu-Disco / Boogie affair with a nod to the seedy underworld of the 80s, Picture Michelle Pfeiffer throwing shapes on the dancefloor in Scarface,  and you are right on the nose.

‘Cherry’ is an all-out Italo / Hi-NRG workout, the linndrums, the driving arpeggio bassline, and overall melancholy feel, are reminiscent of Bobby Orlando.

Royston Summers returns mid-July with a summer anthem in the shape of 'Luv 4 U', an arpeggio fuelled club cut featuring his signature eighties-tinged aesthetic.

Since the inaugurating the Royston Summers project back in 2021 the UK-based artist has been steadily unveiling singles across the past year, showcasing a variety of styles yet coherently keeping a thread of retro tinged sounds, brought into the future with modern technologies, production techniques and his powerful studio prowess.

Here Summers returns with arguably his biggest record to date, 'Luv 4 U', a dynamic dance floor workout fuelled by a bouncy bass line, choppy stab sequences, a Beverly Hills Cop tinged arpeggio lead and hooky vocoder vocal, once again Royston shares an intricately pieced together composition driven by intertwined melodies and deftly programmed synth work.

Brain Dancing springs from a creative collaboration between Glasgow DJ alumni Rob Etherson, one half of techno outfit Mia Dora and a renowned mix engineer, alongside Ross Anderson co-founder of Sub Club residency I AM (now in its 8th year), graphic artist and creative programming director of The Berkeley Suite.  Brain Dancing operates as a monthly party, a studio project and a curated visual aesthetic. 

With both members having their own releases on Optimo Trax, their relationship with the Glasgow home scene is evolving and growing - Etherson with Mia Dora’s Un.Sub EP  in 2014, and Anderson on the Glasgow. London. New York. Edinburgh EP in 2015 (under his I AM DJ moniker Beta).

Channeling their dancefloor influences, from past masters of the rave and beyond, and fusing those with 21st century production techniques Brain Dancing present their 2nd EP on OMDD following a successful debut on BNR Trax.

RR003 DC Salas - Tropical Weirdness (River Rapid)

The third release of the cool Londoner label Midnight People brings Colombian DJs/producers Rush City, an electronic music duo based in Bogotá co-formed by talented artists Jonahlo and Joint4nine. Their debut EP delivers four ready-for-the-summer tracks with a heavy influence from the 80s Synthwave sound, infused with a modern Afro House feel. “Old School Ways” features also a sharp remix by UK-based Jive Talk (Tropical Disco Records).

“Retrospect”, the track we chose to premiere, is proof of the proper production skills of the lads. An upbeat breakbeat drum line toppled with a funky bassline, a ghostly pad and sophisticated synths. The Afro touch provided by the vocals is the cherry on top. This beauty pairs very well with gin tonic and sunset.
