Hot on the heels of one Liverpool producer making his debut on MOS (John Heckle) is another Merseyside producer, ASOK, also making his label debut. Born Stu Robinson, he is the man behind cultured and burgeoning house and techno label Scenery Records, has released on Deep Space Orchestra’s Use of Weapons and, though he has firm roots in d&b, has proven himself adept at crafting raw analogue jams that fuse house and techno together into compelling new forms.

Opening up his Poltergeist EP is ‘Project Poltergeist’, a fizzing brew of incessant hi hats and prominent acid lines that duck and dive between nicely roughshod claps. It’s misty and mystic and immediately feels at home on this label given its heritage. ‘Smash Dimensions’ is a little more stripped back, again placing lots of focus on a lively acid wiggle, but this time dealing in a more serene sense of mood that loosely chucks open and closed hi hats into a grainy arrangement that gentle jacks throughout.

On the flip, ‘Walker’ takes us on a cerebral voyage through raining melodic droplets, crushed percussion and lumpy drums before final track ‘Captain Blood’ pairs a dirty, gnarly bassline with crisp cowbell tinkles and more nicely frayed percussion. This is hugely textured house music with a sombre sense of soul that really manages to take you places.

Right in time for the weekend we are happy to present this week's zero" podcast and it is one of our finest so far, coming from Dutch techno stalwart <a href="http://www.zero-inch.com/artist/Aroy_Dee">Aroy Dee</a>.

In loose association with the Delsin camp Aroy has been running his <a href="http://www.zero-inch.com/label/MOS_(Delsin)">M>O>S</a> imprint for many years now, holding up the flag for deep and raw Detroit-style techno on the Dutch west coast.

Artists who have appeared on M>O>S include <a href="http://www.zero-inch.com/artist/Morphosis">Morphosis</a>, <a href="http://www.zero-inch.com/artist/Legowelt">Legowelt</a>, <a href="http://www.zero-inch.com/artist/Gerd">Gerd</a>, <a href="http://www.zero-inch.com/artist/DMarc_Cantu">D'Marc Cantu</a>, yet Aroy Dee himself has been responsible for most of his label's output. 

His productions - also as part of the <a href="http://www.zero-inch.com/artist/R-A-G">R-A-G</A> crew together with G-String and Marco Spaventi - have further been released on <a href="http://www.zero-inch.com/label/Rush_Hour">Rush Hour</a>, <a href="http://www.zero-inch.com/label/Delsin_Records">Delsin</a> and <a href="http://www.zero-inch.com/label/NWAQ_(Delsin)">NWAQ</a> and have consistently been exploring the field between deep and drifting techno and the jacking analogue house the Netherlands have become famous for.

Aroy Dee's podcast features both US and European, classic and contemporary interpretations of his particular style of house music: From warm and pad-heavy tracks by him and like-minded artists such as Redshape, Newworldaquarium and Kassem Mosse to authentic Chicago bangers from Trax and DJ International.

zero'' // podcast #048 - DJ Mix: Aroy Dee

Daze follows up his seminal 'Lips' white label with a huge three-track EP for the core Lobster Theremin label. Traversing a bastardised series of themes that sees Jersey house blended with overdriven rave, tinker-toy acid lines slicing through shrouded doom techno and chattering hip-hop loops rolling over classic breakbeat house.

The A-side is dominated by the epic 9:09 minutes long 'Neuromance' titles track. A gritty, cyberpunk-edged number that pumps along with a staggered Jersey-style swing and rattling hats, it takes less than a minute for Daze to break the spell and bring in those serene 90's floating pads that so marked out his debut. A hammering ode to the early hours extended jam and a coming-up anthem for 2015.

The flip is shared by a pair of opposing moods.. 'Death Whirl' is pretty much exactly that. A circling drone hovering ominously over some seriously groove-battered drum programming. this could easily have been carved out as a lone drum tool but the ante's upped with a heavily gated acid line that plinks and plonks it's way over the insatiable percussive beating.

B2 'Compton' was an early contender for the Lips release, but was repositioned here as to not "over-breakbeat" the first 12"! A steady, lazy, woozy afternoon in the sun, looping into euphoria with guests acid skits, face-warming pads and that never ending breakbeat repeat.
