It's impossible to pick a favorite season, but the mood of Fall is always so welcoming. A nice cup of tea and some falling leaves. A cozy sweater and a bon fire with friends. Some pumpkin cider or some hot coffee. On a nice Fall day, everything feels right.

Here to keep the autumnal vibes alive, we present 30 new tracks from some of our favorite musicians and beatmakers in the Chillhop community. With 44 artists assisting across 30 tracks, Essentials Fall 2023 is our biggest release yet! A 2xLP to keep you afloat as the seasons change from hot to warm to cool. As the nights grow a bit longer and we prepare to hunker indoors for the cold months ahead. 

Featuring Chillhop familiars like Ian Ewing, Psalm Trees, L'Indécis, The Doppelgangaz, Arbour, SwuM, Evil Needle, Aso, and so many others, while also featuring new additions to the growign family, like Wowflower, Rose Noir, and Jay Prince.

We hope you enjoy these 66 minutes of jazzy beats, lofi instrumentals, chill hip-hop. You might call it downtempo, or trip-hop, or ambient/electronic. We don't really care. If the vibes are right (and they are) we hope you call it Chillhop. A new season is officially here, so dig up your hoodie and pour some dark roast as you listen to this warmly curated compilation.

Our newest double beat tape is a collaborative drop between Kreatev & The Doppelgangaz, and it's one of our favorite releases yet. Kreatev is a cosmic jazzy beatmaker and The Doppelgangaz are a legendary hip-hop duo.

Together, these music acts take on eight tracks each and show us their own interpretation of instrumental music. Chill yet upbeat, and packed with enough bass to demand a new set of speakers (or an old boombox if you want the full golden era nostalgia effect).

We've released over a dozen beat tapes since 2022, as part of an ongoing series, and you can expect more beats sooner than you think.

Offering up a cozy dose for the cold months ahead, Essentials Winter 2024 is a 28 song 2xLP compilation. This chilled release confirms Winter is here, so spin this one well into the new year, as well as the many cold winters down the road.

Whether you're making a snowman in the backyard or shoveling your driveway. Whether you're hanging the tree or opening presents. Whether you're napping or studying or gaming or daydreaming away. For those keeping count, this Winter closes our ninth year releasing Essentials compilation, and this one is our 36th official release. We started this special compilation series back in 2016 with a release for every season of the year. Providing a fresh spin on the artwork every time, each calendar year presents a cohesive world-building storytelling mode and narrative arc. For 2024, our Raccoon returned to the countryside where they grew up and has spent the year catching up with family, reconnecting with old friends, taking plenty of naps, and reflecting on childhood. A time that was so long ago yet feels just like yesterday. Because of this continued narrative, Essentials Winter 2024 has a gaming-heavy visual component and remains steadily reminiscing on the past while also enjoying the present and all of the exciting things to come in the future.

On his sixth studio release Roulette, the prolific producer, songwriter, pianist and MC Alfa Mist has created his own sci-fi universe - a vast dystopia where themes of revenge, forgiveness and redemption loom large.

Alfa Mist’s albums have always tackled big themes. This time, however, he explores an imagined near-future in which reincarnation is discovered to be a potent tool linking dreams and past lives. But with this discovery comes consequences: ethical, moral and philosophical. “If reincarnation is real, how does that shape society?” he explains. “If reincarnation means accumulation of knowledge, would you share it and enable everyone to understand more about the world? Or do you struggle for power? And do some people want to stop others from remembering who they were?”
Over 15 tracks, Alfa explores these ideas with heady potency. Each song is a spin of the wheel – a different song and character. The musician’s signature is still there – lambent keys, intuitive groove, free-flowing jazz improvisation – but Roulette is imbued with a smoky psychedelia. An immersive listen, this album is designed “to feel” on every level, says Alfa. It also contains some of his most impressive arrangements yet - see the eight-minute title track that effortlessly flips through time signatures – “because life’s like that,” says Mist; it’s not always linear.

Roulette underlines Alfa Mist as one of the most forward-thinking composers in UK music, with poignant, plaintive melodies that lodge deep in your psyche. “I’m exploring different parts of myself,” he says. “But obviously, as I grow, all of those parts change. Music is a constant; it’s my state of mind that I constantly chisel and work on and make sure that’s always growing and staying interested in new things. As long as I do that, it’ll come out in the music.”
