The fifth entry in the DISPLAYSOLO series sees UK producer @thugwidow showcasing his signature blend of brooding ambience and euphoric rave stylings.

Manifested in the artist’s own dreams, Goliath’s Twin maintains a steady push-pull between meditation and acceleration. Winding breakbeats emerge through dread-inducing ambience only to fizzle back into the abyss and be reborn accompanied by rugged basslines and more break-neck rhythms. Rave sonics mold into intricate entanglements that only live for brief moments before mutating into something new and unfamiliar, all evoking the delirium of being lost in a hypnagogic dancehall. Dark and murky, the two 15 minute tracks maintain a distinct aesthetic while undulating between these foggy and lucid visions.

Recorded in London over the dark days of Spring. “It’s quite raw.”

The first DISPLAY split tape of 2020 finds Avbvrn and Evitceles taking a painterly approach to heavy-weight sonics.

Avbvrn’s “Austerity” skips through patchy urban environments while dark subterranean rhythms dance in and out of frame below. Occasionally focusing in on tight, micro synth murmurs before returning to eyes-down bass workouts, the piece gives an introspective look at the weight of a bustling outside environment.

On “White Lion”, Evitceles expands upon these cinematic themes but with a much wider lens. The pensive yet hulking epic finds orchestral pads dancing with hard hitting bass stabs, evoking the feeling of a monolithic structure finding life. A slow burner that ultimately culminates in other-worldly pastoral hymns, “White Lion” closes out the release in a cleansing fashion.

Thugwidow returns to the DISPLAYSOLO series with an asymmetrical two tracker front-loaded with a dizzying breakbeat epic and finishing off with a meditative post-rave chill out. Both tracks see the artist stripping down and dissecting his signature combination of technical breakbeat edits and zoned out ambient sonics. “A Figure of Speech” is Thugwidow at his most familiar, an onslaught of drums & bass while “A Natural Conclusion” is a rare drumless b-side from the artist. Two distinct tracks that are both uniquely of the artist’s sound.
