AGLE - Spatial Anomalies - May 2025

Mystery Kid (SXDNS398) marks her one-year milestone as a producer with this ambitious remix album, enlisting eleven artists to reinvent her tracks. The collaborators – including My Secret Playground, Soyoon, Astore, Seiun, Clouzer, Desinformant, Ex.Hale, Lvcerate, Jabba 2.3, Javier Ferreira, and Sachazam – deliver a colourful spectrum of styles, from shimmering Disco-infused Indie Dance to Industrial-tinged EBM. This collection isn’t just a celebration of Mystery Kid’s growth; it’s a testament to electronic music’s boundless versatility. Each contributor leaves their fingerprint, yet the album coheres through her distinct melodic sensibility and willingness to embrace experimentation. The result feels like a global dialogue between underground scenes, with every remix offering a portal into another producer’s creative world.

Premiered here, Javier Ferreira’s reinterpretation of “GTA Cruise” – originally crafted by Mystery Kid and Discord – is one of the album’s most radical transformations. Where the original nods to Kraftwerk’s minimalist synth precision, Ferreira plunges it into Underworld’s realm of psychedelic, sweat-drenched Techno. The rigid 808s dissolve into a fluid, sub-bass-driven pulse, while eerie arpeggios spiral overhead like warehouse-rave ghosts. It’s a masterstroke of reinvention: Ferreira retains the track’s hypnotic core but mutates its DNA into something darker and more sensual. This remix doesn’t just stand out, it redefines what a reinterpretation can achieve, proving Mystery Kid’s compositions thrive when pushed to extremes. A crowning jewel in an album brimming with bold ideas.

Mystery Kid - Terror Creator (Astore Remix)

Talented Baltimore producer Ted Williams, better known as TDWS, makes his fourth appearance on the rising & shining Spanish label Burning Synths with “Skyline,” a hypnotic fusion of Trance euphoria and Acid-tinged grooves. Known for his well-received releases on respected Indie Dance/Dark Disco outlets such as Emerald & Doreen, NEIN, and Club Mackan, TDWS once again proves his knack for crafting immersive, dance-floor-ready soundscapes. The track is a dynamic journey – layering pulsating basslines, shimmering synths, and trippy 303 squelches that evoke both nostalgia and forward-thinking energy. It’s built for late-night drives and warehouse raves alike, balancing melody and grit with precision.

The single also includes a remix by another skilled virtuoso, Mattyuzalem, expanding the release's versatility and adding a different dimension to the parcel. PREMIERE782 // TDWS - Skyline (Original Mix)

Vintage synth fetishist Italo Brutalo brings you his superb sophomore album Second Horizon, released 29th May on his and his girlfriend very own Bungalo Disco label. The German producer possesses an incredible armoury of retro analogue synths, and he certainly knows how to use them. And push them to their limits. Congratulations, listener. You are about to step into an alternate electronic universe.

Kicking off with City Sight, every synth is a joy. Warm tones, clear, crisp symbols and snares. A beautiful melody intertwined with acid tweaks and dreamy vocoder vocals, sounding almost more keys than voice. And that 80s drum machine line. There are five different decades where this modern classic would feel right at home.

You want it darker? Here comes Memory Sync, bursting through your loading screen like an end of level baddy. Press ‘play’ and you will know exactly what I mean. The hi hat and kick drum pattern on Digital Freedom is to die for, the acid bass and Italo disco melody giving your day an instant serotonin boost.

Surveillance State kicks the tempo up more than a notch, this eerie 3-D soundscape literally makes you feel as though you are being watched by a Machiavellian force. You can literally feel the paranoia oozing from your speakers. Technology is like a souped-up Kraftwerk 33 played on 45. Close your eyes and imagine stop-frame footage of robots in a car factory. Just brilliant. Heiss Oder Kalt (Hot Or Cold) is a perfect title for this lush mix of warm and cool synths, with a vocal sample reminiscent of a mad scientist.

Chasing Shadows, The first single to be released from Second Horizon, is just damn well exciting. It’s like you’re driving K.I.T.T. on turbo boost, in pursuit of the Midnight Express. Strap yourself in as Italo Brutalo hits the TB-303 button on the console for an acid fuel injection. Just when you thought it couldn’t get better, the joyous robotic vocal kicks in. I dare you to try and stay still whilst Chasing Shadows plays. It’s impossible.

Free To Move takes the tempo down a notch, robotic melodies dancing with each other in beautiful synchronicity, giving life to a beautiful android, leading perfectly into Black Gold, a soundscape rich enough to deserve to grace a Hollywood masterpiece.

Human Code is a perfect companion piece to City Sight. Drop this one in a club and see the reaction. Pure bliss. Then comes dark and sleazy low tempo I am a creator pulls you into the thought process of Italo Brutalo, before Tonight finishes this perfect long player off to a joyous, satisfying conclusion.

Musical visionaries often find it difficult to write that difficult second album. With Second Horizon, Italo Brutalo has brought you an original masterpiece. Enjoy.
