Mixed by STEVE MURPHY & FRANKY JONES with vinyls, 1 sampler and  a 
tape recorder. It toke us 3 weeks (every day 4 hours work) to finish 30min. 
The tape cutting was hard as hell. But the result is a LEGENDARY mix !!!

REVIEUW ON DISCOGS :

At the end of the eighties and the early nineties there were two options if you 
wanted to have a mix with your favorite electronic club music on it: clubtapes 
or computermixes. Some of these - sometimes tv advertised - computermixes 
are true gems.

The scheme is simple: select some good contemporary tracks, get into the 
studio and let some music freak with way too much imagination sample up 
the whole thing.      This Serious Beats Vol. 5 Mega Dance Party Mix is a fine 
example of excellent studio craftmanship. 
This Franky Jones & Steve 'The King Of Computermixes' Murphy one is - pfew - 
mindbending and stands out even more. Frank and Steve must have been on 
some kind of trip, it sounds like they were on lsd and speed at the same time 
while arranging this in the studio. The mix includes more tracks and vocal 
samples then mentioned on the sleeve.  Wicked and completely mental, 
this is an igniting rocket bursting out !!!

London-based Thomas Feriero, AKA Avatism, didn't buy his first vinyl when he was ten years old, nor was he born out of the love of two underground jazz musicians. He had an extremely dull and standard childhood and can barely play the drums. Yet somehow, he is able to formulate tech-house tracks that are classy and artful while remaining dancefloor-functional. After catching AMAM head Alessio Mereu's attention, Avatism joined the roster last year along with The Selph for a collaborative EP.

His latest solo venture, the Mindset EP, begins with "Jigsaw Poet", delivering thick, meaty bass frequencies and a Spartan pulse with classic groovebox sounds, paving the way for some unpredictable split-second flashes of piano and organ. Halfway through, the track intercepts some distant radio signals with a distinguished voice offering some insight on Allen Ginsberg, a notorious all-night raver kid if there ever was one. "When You Feel" escorts the listener to a cabaret with its swingy, slinky aura and the somber vocals that mirror the androgynous voices of jazz divas from decades past. On the flip, Cynosure superintendent Mike Shannon writes a "Letter to the East" (the eastern hemisphere? or is that the East Side of Detroit?) with his remix of "Jigsaw Poet", introducing an overall more synthetic mood and prowling melodic lines. Finally, as a digital bonus, Avatism offers "Mindset", further showing his love for doom-laced grooves and esoteric spoken word.

Originally released exclusively on limited coloured vinyl, through DJ Bone's Subject Detroit label, with remixes by DJ Bone and Aux 88, "Good Time Charlie" definitely had a buzz goin' on in Tokyo when it hit the clubs. Tweaked out 808 percussion, old school piano house melody, the late Ella Fitzgerald steady zoomin' along with the God Rakim          ...yeah it's an unusual track, even for Rennie Foster. More than the sum of it's parts though, it's a serious piece of hi-tech soul that really can't be fronted on. A testament to the enduring connection of real house music and techno culture, that doesn't go anywhere near typical "tech-house" cliches. 

Detroit legend Claude Young takes it a few steps further into some serious electronic soul music territory with masterful, chord driven piano work and strings like only a motor city master could muster. Claude's remix is new for this release, and NOT available on the vinyl release. So don't sleep on it. Seriously, this is a one of a kind remix that you can play now or 20 years from now. 

Rennie takes the release home with "Hustle N' Flow" a chunky beat driven track with a vicious acid line and classic synth chords. Capturing the struggle of a true underground music soldier perfectly, this track is an underdog's anthem and as raw as it gets. The message, truly, is in the music.

With his latest 'Junipero' LP, released on Voyage in January, he shines light on a more explorative sound, piecing together ambient, synth-infused sounds, paying tribute to the Californian coast.
