La Flauta

After sprouting with a trip to the Amazon on the Full Flower Moon, the Future Sound Of Nature spreads more branches with, Soul Clap’s EcoSystems Mixtape on the Summer Solstice. The veteran DJs have a long history of conceptual mixes (DJ Kicks, fabric, RA, watergate) and have spent over a decade supporting climate action in the music industry. The extended mix brings nature in as a musical collaborator by collaging field recordings, sound habitats and nature songs (content, title or lyrics). Spread over four musical habitats, each intertwined by field recordings and original ambient interludes, EcoSystemS is a unique take on nature music–weaving together a diverse range of electronic genres, for the body, mind and spirit–to align the nervous system as only nature can.

Fueled by the fire of the sun, the first habitat brings house music energy into the Ecosystem, fueling photosynthesis and building up plant tissue. Then, as a quiet storm descends, the second habitat (23:10) is bathed in the depth of the water cycle. This habitat is home to animals like birds and insects that play an important role in the movement of matter and energy through the system, feeding on plants and on one another. Breaking down dead organic matter, the third habitat (41:16) decomposes into a mystical musical moment of rebirth. While the final habitat  (1:13:41) journeys through the jungle to complete the cycle, releasing carbon back to the atmosphere and facilitating nutrient cycling by converting nutrients stored in dead biomass back to a form that can be readily used by plants and microbes.

FSON02: EcoSystemS by Soul Clap

This track started as a groove I knew I wanted to build. Something for the dancefloor. Something that felt like Miami without trying too hard to be it.

But it didn’t really feel complete until I went back and listened through some old voicemails. One of them hit just right:
“Can you answer so you can tell me when we’re going to Miami? Thank you.”
That line pulled it all together. Not just a sample, but a feeling I’ve had a hundred times.

For anyone who’s ever planned a trip just to dance.
For late nights, early mornings, and those in-between hours that only make sense when the beat’s still going.

This one’s a postcard to that moment — from the booth to Miami and back again.
