Resonance (ft. Q'AILA)

Although it may not be the most complex song in the world, nor the most virtuosic, when I was writing this I felt very emotional. The story behind the song is of a disconsolate nature, with what I tried to convey being quite difficult to perceive, but I shall explain, and I hope you can understand and hear the story :)

The story is of an alternate version of you. What you envision your perfect life to be, you may be surrounded by the people you love, live in your ideal world.

The invasive nature of others trying to tell you what to do and where to go is corrupting your train of thought, with people you love being taken away from you, stress, hate, and other hindrances being introduced into your life until you find yourself on the threshold of leaving your perfect world, or leaving it to die. I’ve conveyed this through the use of distortion, glitches and the neuro style bass, underpinning a beautiful piano melody, which is still trying to shine through the darkness.

Whilst on this threshold of beauty and desolation, you feel a sense of ecstasy as you find the motive to grasp onto the beauty your life still has.

The sample of speaking is taken from the Tomoyo Chapter of the series Clannad: After Story. In this, a couple stop their relationship whilst carrying the knowledge they are still deeply in love with each other, simply because other people have influenced them to be apart. This is their reconciliation of their relationship and love. (For those of you who want to know specifically where it is from, here: youtu.be/XRfKaJytYG0?t=1m20s)

The sample from the space shuttle is meant to symbolise the halt of your precious and heavenly life; “It’s come to a final stop.”

Or has it?

All I’m trying to say here is, don’t let other people influence your life in a bad way. Focus on and cherish the things you love. If you envision a dream, chase it.

The Garden Of Escapism

“The more beautiful a memory is, the more painful it can become”

This is following on from the theme of 'The Garden of Escapism', a part II if you like. I hope you enjoy it as much as the first one :)

You were born to be real, not be perfect. You’re alive to be you, not be what someone else wants you to be. While you’re busy looking for the perfect person, you’ll probably miss the imperfect person who could make you perfectly happy.

Moreover, the imperfect person who could make you happy could be you.

Every imperfection you have makes you who you are. I think it’s the imperfections that make things beautiful, and being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect.

The basis of this song is to continue the theme of not letting other people influence you too much, however I thought this time I should incorporate the concept of memory into the song. Looking back on ourselves, and thinking about what we have done previously is something we do regularly. I wanted to make the song seem like we were moving on, this is why I have incorporated the sounds of children playing, the old movie projector to evoke an audible aesthetic of looking back on memories.

I will finish this synopsis with a quote from Jane Austen: “Perhaps it is our imperfections that make us so perfect for one another”

The Garden Of Imperfections (ft. Q'AILA)

This piece was designed to bring closure to the theme of individuality, about letting go of anything or anyone else, being able to stand on your own as you continue forward. 

Endings are not bad things, they just mean that something else is about to begin. And there are many things that don't really end, anyway, they just begin again in a new way. Saying goodbye doesn't mean anything. It's the time we spent together that matters, not how we left it. The memories we created. Some memories never fade, and I believe that keeps us connected, transcending anything physical. No matter what happens, some memories can never be replaced. 

To come full circle, this song was somewhat inspired by Clannad: After Story like I was with The Garden of Escapism. I will leave you with this quote. 

"Meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to me. I don’t want you to be lost or afraid or anything like that. From here on out, I know things might be hard sometimes. But no matter what, please don’t ever regret the time we spent together."

With this, The Garden collection draws to a close. I can now say: "It has come to a final stop" :)

When I first heard Curious, I sat and stared at my screen in a daze. The production, the melodies, vocals, harmonies, everything about it was entrancing, what I would consider genuine beauty in a song. I scrolled down to read the lyrics, and I saw just sitting at the bottom of the description ‘Inspired by Hyouka’. 

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this inspiration that is associated with this song, allow me to inform you on why I asked Kozoro to remix this song, and the ideas I wanted to reinstate and make potentially more prominent about ‘Curious’. I’ll keep this as comprehensible as possible so you don’t have to know anything about the story of Hyouka.

I wanted to create an atmosphere that exhibited both characters personalities.
 
On the right of the image is Oreki. The first half of my remix is tended towards Oreki, for what I tried to audibly show was somewhat melancholic and crestfallen, but in a way that sounds like he has embraced these traits. Encapsulating darkness, and transmuting his capture into light.

The second half of the remix is tended towards Chitanda whom is on the left of the image. I thought so hard about how to sonically recreate what it would be like to be enveloped by happiness, euphoria, elation, and of course, curiosity. Enhancing the light around her and Oreki to become more radiant, more rhapsodic, more confusing, and more exhilarating.

I am writing this piece from an elegiac frame of mind. To a time which we remember. To a time to which we won’t be able to return.

A time where the world wasn’t a scary and daunting. A time where we remained seemingly untinctured by what the future holds. A time where time itself seemed perennial, where the world would keep turning regardless of any thought.

A time where there wasn’t a construct for you to fit in. A time where seeking, desperately trying to obtain validation from others was irrelevant. A time where we didn’t need to feed the ego with how we compare to other people, what popularity we attain or how much money we earn.

Although our innocence may be gone, the path that one might go on to try and achieve happiness may not be necessary. Maybe we have an illusion of what happiness is, and that we were most content, most happy, and most perfect right from the beginning.
