Commissioned work with 'Ausland' Berlin, 19th May 2018.
This tune was part of a  beautiful commission from 'Ausland' Berlin. A musical dialogue with the remarkable Jeanne Lees album 'conspiracy' from 1975. I will use live and fixed sampling and percussion of the album creating futuristic and nostalgic arrangements of the original material.

I approached the majority of Jeanne Lees work by focusing on 'clean samples' of her voice as a starting point. I then composed and arranged certain effects and drone sounds that would envelop her voice as if she was speaking from above us; As if she was sending us a prayer, a message.

Then adding synth sounds from the early 1980's I set in motion a feeling of moving forward, taking a journey, a ride into another realm. A realm where Jeanne Lee may have approached her music if she had been born in another time.

Amidst the incendiary and politically charged rap inundating India’s millennial underground, the laid-back, old-school flow of bilingual Kolkata-based hip-hop crew Park Circus is a welcome change of pace. National Animal sets up treacly, quirky beats (think Deltron 3030 or Dream Warriors) for carefully enunciated—and often darkly comic—verses that present modern snapshots of urban life in India.
