Nina & I recorded another set using our current setup! This time we explored Techno instead of DiscoFunk (here's our disco-ey set:https://soundcloud.com/thisissami/showerlist-jam-thunderstorm). I think we got a really good synergy going on this one!

I think this is a big improvement over my solo Techno set from yesterday.

Showerlist Jam: Techno Time!

This is the sixth in a series of practice sets in the lead up to Dissolve (Sunday October 27th at The Cobalt, free!) - featuring Shamik, Grasp the Erro, Kid Kurse, Casio CoPilot & myself.

I do random experimental stuff like this that's hopefully enjoyable and fun to dance to. Each time it's different. The other guys each have a combination of some of the following: amazing producer, amazing DJ, amazing beatboxer, and amazing MC.

Should be a sweet night, so come on down if you're in or near Vancouver! Did I mention the first one is free?

This was the 4th ever jam of my new ElectroJazziness project with Alex McNally. It was performed live at Parc La Fontaine in Montreal in the evening. 100% improvised live jazz-electronic-hiphop fusion duo.

This was the 2nd half of a longer set. I forgot to hit record until the moment that this recording began. The first half was inspired by the word "thrill". The second half (i.e. this recording) was inspired by the word "ricochet" (given to me by my friend Randi).

I'm getting more and more comfortable with this newer setup!

Ricochet - Improv Jam - I loved the last vibe so much!

For this jam, my friend Lindsey gave me some writing to inspire my music. I think she thought it was all going to be one song, but then turned it into an entire journey instead. Here's the writing she gave me:

This is the first journey in a new series under the flowstate moniker. It features my street performance rig from the summer, but with a focus on flow instead of interactivity. I'm really happy with this first edition.

I expect most future entries to live on YouTube with a video of how I produce the music live, but perhaps I'll keep them going on soundcloud too?

If you're unfamiliar with my music: my performances are 100% improvised. This setup includes a drum machine, a chaotic synth, an electric piano, a looper, a variety of guitar pedals (for my voice), and a mixer/compressor/limiter.

I really liked the lyrical flow in this one; I liked the rhythm of it and how it fit with everything else. This was part of a bigger jam that started out in a house music world, but then I slowed it down at the end and I really liked what emerged from that point.

This is a completely improvised jam with total strangers at Vancouver Island's regional burn: Otherworld. This was part of a 2 hour jam hosted by my Electrojazziness project. This was the final experience that we facilitated during our tour. Each show was quite unique.

This excerpt from that performance featured a bunch of different talented musicians taking turns soloing. This was the output from the board and has not been mixed for general listening.

This is a completely improvised jam with total strangers at Vancouver Island's regional burn: Otherworld. This was part of a 2 hour jam hosted by my Electrojazziness project. This was the final experience that we facilitated during our tour. Each show was quite unique.

This track is a small excerpt from that experience, featuring Kady Savard on the improvised vocals, myself on the drums, Alex McNally Gagnon on the keys, and.... other people on other instruments whose names I do not know. The recording is just the board mix output, so it's mixed for that stage and not for general listening.

Can you believe it? I haven't played in 5 months! Since the end of my last tour (October 2015), I have been occupied with other aspects of my life. Specifically, I've been working on a big programming contract, and more importantly, taking care of getting back to being me after what has proven to be the single most difficult year of my life thus far.

This was the last performance of my 2017 tour! I felt really good about it. :) All jammed live in on the hardware you see in the image (using Ableton Live as a live looping system). Unfortunately, the recording was a bit too hot so there's a bit of distortion in various parts throughout. :( 

Now... I begin the next chapter of my music career.... transitioning to Bitwig, as I build out a system built perfectly for my needs in that DAW. :)

I just updated my drum sample library and decided to jam with it. I think this is the best uptempo set I've played thus far in my life.

As per usual for my sets, this was improvised live. I lay down some beats, jam some tunes over them, and then evolve everything slowly but surely. Super duper proud of this one.

This is an improvised piece i jammed earlier today. T'was part of a longer set, but nina said "omg this is amazing!!!" so i turned it into a track of its own.
