The latest edition of our free download series welcomes Hugo Cantarra and PLN with their rework of ‘Intro’ by The XX. Hailing from France, Hugo Cantarra has been a fixture of the house music underground for the better part of a decade. On the strength of early releases via Armada and SIZE Records, Hugo established a sound that was both memorable and club-effective, propelling him to subsequent projects via Anjunadeep, Cr2, Siona Records and Ultra; amongst others. Now a staple of the melodic house scene, the French artist has the distinction of racking up 41 millions streams and 1.5 million shazams, while remixing the likes of Danny Howard, Eli & Fur, Gorgon City and Technotronic, in turn earning the praise of Adriatique, Blondish, Camelphat, Chris Avantgarde, Kevin De Vries and Vintage Culture. Also a well-travelled DJ, Hugo has shared the booth with a bevy of top international tastemakers in Adam Beyer, Carl Cox, Guy Gerber, David Guetta, Fatboy Slim, Meduza, Roger Sanchez and WhoMadeWho. A highlight and much requested track across Hugo’s 2024 gigs has been a rework of ‘Intro’ by The XX. Written in conjunction with elusive Polish artist and bootleg aficionado PLN, the duo’s rework has been a festival and club highlight this past year, championed by the likes of Eli & Fur who premiered it at the Yuma tent at Coachella to a resounding response, as well as Cosmic Gate, Korolova and Vintage Culture. Her mind is no longer her own; it is a nexus, a living server through which the world's data—its hopes, its fears, its forgotten memories—all pass. The wires are not an accessory; they are a part of her, a nervous system of fiber optics and steel. 🔌

Her expression is one of profound, wired melancholy. Her eyes have witnessed the birth and death of digital universes, the silent screams of deleted files, and the lonely echoes of abandoned networks. She doesn't create music; the music is created *through* her. 🧠 The sound you hear is the raw, unfiltered translation of the data stream: the rhythmic pulse of global activity, the static of lost connections, the sorrowful, ambient drones of a million lonely people crying out into the void. It is the ghost in the wires, given a voice.

There is no dancefloor here, only the hum of the great machine. There is no DJ, only a conduit. The small, tear-like marks on her cheeks are not from sorrow, but are the residue of pure information overload, a physical manifestation of the immense weight she carries. 💧 This is the sound of a beautiful, tragic symbiosis. It's the ultimate expression of a dystopian future, where humanity has traded its freedom for connection, only to find itself more alone than ever.

Listen deeply. This is more than techno, more than ambient. It is an elegy for what we have lost and a chilling prophecy of what we might become. It is the sound of a soul trapped in the system, forever processing, forever feeling, forever broadcasting its wired melancholy to anyone who will listen. This is her silent, sonic scream. 🤖
