Helpful (Scout's Law Mix Series #3) - Disco House

After the last two mixes, I needed an easy mix to get down and I found this playlist on Youtube with about 90 tech house remixes on it. Downloaded about half and turned them into this mix within a 24 hr period. Played a lot of songs out and didn't get fancy on this one but I am still happy with the result and since Tech House sets are always longer, I made this one 60 minutes.

This is a re-recording of my club premiere that took place at the event I hosted and managed, Lost In Paradise. 

It took place at VYBZ Nightclub in Downtown San Diego and was an incredible first show for me to get on stage and shine through. I really cannot wait until my next set, we will see where that will be

My first set at Firehouse, took the 9pm slot on May the 4th and had a fun time figuring it out on the fly since majority of my cue points didnt load and my headphones were having issues haha

Never know whats gonna happen when you get on the decks, but the best know how to improvise and be able to do so without ppl noticing.

As my "Yellow Brick Road" to becoming a DJ finishes, I wanted to make a mix that I feel tops them all and is a good representation of what I played this year to become a full fledged performer. However, there is still a long way for me to grow and exceed my current talents.

Currently though, I wanted to shout-out some artists I know persoanlly and some artists whose songs have been go-to bangers for me in my mixes. Therefore, this volume is dedicated to artists like Proppa, DJ Susan, Acraze, and FOMO, who have my main motivators and my metaphorical "Man behind the curtain" that drive me to get better and better. This is a continuation of my first mix series where I tried to make a different mix every month with a different genre, only using songs that I had downloaded and discovered that month.

This time, I am starting off with Disco House and DIsco Funk music

The Merit Badge Mix Series Vol 1 - Disco/Funk

This is a really challenging bass mix that I put together for a set at VYBZ in San Diego in February, and I actually recorded this version of it in December pre-Christmas because I wanted to practice a ton and get a lot of tests with the genre shifts and massive BPM changes. 

Borrowed a sequence of 4 songs from  a previous Scout's Law mix because I was going to play it live in Salton Sea but the generator for the decks died when I was just starting to mix. I also corrected a few issues from that last mix so it felt worth re-using. 

All in all, this is my first real offical live bass mix and it represents Rachella, VYBZ, and Scout's Law all in one. Couldn't let a mix like not be included in the Merit Badges.

Xandiego - U31 Full Techno Set - 3/13/2024

This is a various bass set that I built via a bunch of songs from my friend Oso's flash drive, mixed in with a few of my own G House songs. Variable bitrate was discovered after mixing but overall still a solid mix given I didn't know most of these songs until I started organizing the mix. Not a true freestyle but def did not put a ton of work into aligning before I started recording.

Wrong Sticks Mini-Mix

This mix was originally my plan for my April 6th set at NOVA but I decided to scrap the setlist and remake it. I have thrown away a lot of mixes or sets days before a show and remade them.

 However, this practice routine was without issue and I didn't want to let this setlist go to waste, so I decided to build a new set for my upcoming show and a new mix series for those mixes that I abandon but still deserve to be heard.

The Scrapyard Sets - Vol 1

Jake Shore crushed at NOVA last night and I was still buzzing from it so I made a deep house mix but it was a complete freestyle based on songs I downloaded this same morning. Bummed I cant make it to CRSSD this year but this is my therapy instead.

The FOMO Freestyle

Made a mix for a set that I ended up not playing, and then when I tried to record it anyway, I realized I loved the songs used but hated the arrangement. So even though it wasn't used for the set I planned, and it was too heavy for my Acraze set, I took the same songs and realigned them all as a challenge to myself. 

In doing so, I made almost the entire mix relevant to adjacent songs. I have lyrics that lead into each other, songs that make the same word or phrase back to back, songs in a row that have the same theme, etc.

I'mma make a IG reel to walk through my mental process of the new alignment but in the end, its still one for the yard. Took a few tries to get the new alignment down but I'm happy with the end result even though its a throwaway haha
