The original track, ‘A Girl Like You’ by Edwin Collins is a classic piece of music that throughout his childhood had influenced Dreadsquad without him even realising it and then when in his later years he heard it played in a taxi he knew right away that he had to make a Reggae version of it. It’s this relationship with the song that makes this cover authentic.

The lyrics are strong and unique whilst the melody is infectious, and the way that Blackout delivers the song with his rough, raspy tone gives a whole new angle for everyone who hears it to enjoy. It’s the first time that Blackout has recorded a cover and it’s one of two love songs that feature on their album ‘World Destruction’.

For 18 years, from 1969 to 1987, Clinton Fearon was the bass player, vocalist, composer and lyricist for one of the most successful roots reggae bands of all time, The Gladiators. Add to that his parallel career as house musician for Coxsone Dodd’s Studio One and Lee “Scratch” Perry’s Black Ark Studio, two of the most famous Jamaican producers you could ever hope to meet, and you begin to see why today Clinton Fearon is such an influential and respected musician.

'Heart And Soul', his new entirely acoustic album that here includes 2 bonus tracks, bears witness to his early work with the Gladiators as the bulk of the songs were written during that time. It's not the first acoustic album he's recorded but it is the first on which he plays every single instrument. Rhythm, bass and acoustic guitars, congas, calabash, cabasa, cowbell and comb, not forgetting his 'wooden frog' and the ping of a spoon against glasses of water; all are pure, undiluted Clinton.

“My music is roots reggae from the island of Jamaica. I grew up deep in the hills, up in St. Catherine, surrounded by nature, beauty and hard work. Even as a child I knew I wanted to be a musician and began my career singing in church and at school, and eventually built my own guitar. As a teenager, my journeys took me to Kingston where I met many musicians and eventually began writing and recording music. I write from my heart. The world is full of inspiration ... nature, people, politics, love. I write about them all. My music is good for the soul - always with a message of hope and betterment for tomorrow.” Clinton Fearon
