Ludwig Van Beethoven was 30 when he composed Moonlight Sonata. It was completed in 1801 and dedicated in 1802 to his pupil, Countess Giulietta Guicciardi.

Claude Debussy was 28 when he composed Rêverie, which was one of his first solo piano works to make an impact. Even at this early stage in his career, when he was still working out what kind of composer he wanted to be (he was apparently a fervent debater when it came to Wagnerism), it's clear to see traits of that signature Debussy sound.

This song is dedicated to Grace Ramsey, concert pianist and my piano teacher, who lived to the age of 95 (1915-2010). Her violin teacher was Rudolph Luks, composer for Franz Joseph, the last Emperor of Austria.

When I was 5 years old I had a dream that I was playing a piano concerto by Beethoven. I started learning piano when I was 7 and started composing within a year. It all started here... I had made a mistake and created a new sound, and then I just went with it. I have always tried to be as unique as possible but if it's too abstract then it may not be well understood or accepted. Some familiar chord progressions and melodic styles are important to engage the audience... it says that you understand them, refreshes them, and then the unique material intrigues them.

I stopped taking piano lessons when I was 15 and decided just to work on my own songs but when I was 25 I realized that my style wasn't expanding, so I learned to play Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto #1, 1st Movement, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #2, 1st Movement, Beethoven's Piano Concerto #1, 1st Movement, Chopin's Tarantella, Beethoven's Piano Sonata #16, Debussy's Suite Bergamasque, which includes Clair De Lune, and Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody #3.
