Program Notes:

This waltz was written in honor of the birth of a baby girl. The tenderness of this piece suggests the sweetness of a parent cradling a newborn baby to sleep. 

Early level students will be challenged by the movement of the Left Hand shifting between Bass and Treble clefs, along with some practice reading ledger lines, but the rhythms are easy to read and the work is full of patterns (including basic broken chords) which should seem familiar and accessible. Students' attention should be on balancing voicing and shaping the simple phrases, while maintaining a lightness and buoyancy in their motions in order to better convey the motion of a dance; it is never too early to prepare for the lovely waltzes of the great Romantic composers!

Winter Branches

When winter-time grows weary, I lift my eyes on high
And see the black trees standing, stripped clear against the sky;

They stand there very silent, with the cold flushed sky behind,
The little twigs flare beautiful and restful and kind;

Clear-cut and certain they rise, with summer past,
For all that trees can ever learn they know now, at last;

Slim and black and wonderful, with all unrest gone by,
The stripped tree-boughs comfort me, drawn clear against the sky.

Solstice Serenade for Violin & Piano (Feat. Mischa Lefkowitz)

The theme music for Shen Zui Hua, the free-spirited and adventurous, yet gentle  main character of the native tribe inhabiting Yihua Island, a recent map extension from Moonlight Blade OL (Tencent Games). A utopian place, the island dweller's life is peaceful, pure and in harmony with nature.
