Virgen de las Nieves

This performance of my 2014 composition is by the New York Virtuoso Singers, conducted by Harold Rosenbaum, live from a NYC concert in April 2019. My work uses three separate texts sung by three separate groups. Two cantors (Suzanne Schwing and Jordan Barrett)sing the first 6 verses of the original Hebrew psalm. An SATB chorus (Aine Hakamatsuka, Chloe Holgate, Elizabeth Van Os, Donna Breitzer, Helen Karloski, Nathaniel Adams, John Kawa, Michael Steinberger, Steven Moore, and John Rose) sings Martin Luther’s 1524 translation of the psalm (the first and fifth verses of his hymn) in a non-tonal chorale. Four soloists (Sarah Griffiths, Margaret O'Connell, Robert May, and Nick Hay)sing a text that I adapted from Oscar Wilde’s letter from Reading Gaol, commonly called “De Profundis.”
