Chill beat made with the Akai MPC Studio and MPC 2.0 Software, mixed / mastered in Pro Tools.

I own a couple vintage Akai MPC's and they are amazing, but for people who are looking to break into producing with an MPC, the Akai MPC Studio is a terrific value.  First, for users of the MPC, the interface is very familiar. Second, the quality of the controller is excellent, considering that the entire package is $200. Finally, the software has really, really come a long way. 

I found it incredibly intuitive to use, probably in part because I've been using MPCs for years, but it was easy to get the hang of, and it's also got a lot less limitations than a classic hardware MPC. The fact that you have to have it hooked up to a computer to use it is not much of a downside considering the power that you get.



My first original track! It took a while before I got the hang of producing, but the result is great! The master isn't that loud yet so if anybody wants to volunteer, be my guest.

Slightly different outcome from a jam with the same samples from my track Fleetsy Cline's Dream Waltz, A.   My sister-in-law tossed me 3 random songs to flip a beat with. This is what I cobbled together after work in a few hours over a couple of evening.  Used Patsy Cline's Tennessee  Waltz (only found on Youtube), Fleetwood Mac's Dreams (vinyl from my parents) and an ELO song I'd not heard (borrowed vinyl.) Samples get processed in my s950, threw filters on my ms-20, and generally degraded deliberately if they aren't already of questionable quality. This was sequenced in a daw, and recorded to tape on a tascam portastudio.
