Voices in the Voltage

My new album "Can I have a word?" is out now. This is meant to be listened to in one sitting.

Leading up to the release, I thought about releasing singles and having a few teasers and all of that, but decided against it and wanted to drop this all at once. Singles/building hype doesn't feel right for this, as this isn't that kind of album. Personally I thought it'd be best to drop all at once, then upload the tracks solo at a later date with more context when I'm ready.

This is a very personal record, and one that I didn't plan on making. It's about an experience that happened to me last year, and how I dealt with it and moved forward. I know I've been away for quite a while and I hope this album can explain why, as I personally don't feel ready to say why yet.

Some mixdowns/vocal takes on this are raw and left like that on purpose. I didn't want to overproduce this one and take away the feeling of these tracks, so I left them as is. Special thanks to Kaylee for singing on the title track with me. Her feature has deeper meaning, but I'm not ready to say why yet. I still think our track can be better mixdown wise, but I'm letting it go.

I'm still working on the future of my music as I've said before, but I put it on hold temporarily so this album can come out first. When I'm properly back, you'll know.

"A mysterious force has taken over the radio tower where The Voices reside."

Something I wrote early last year but wasn't happy with the mix at the time, polished it up now.

Been working on a few bodies of work since late 2019 - now. As a silver lining from the pandemic, I spent almost all of my free time writing music and working on my production (I also had to start freelancing music production for $$, so this is literally all I did through most of 2021). As a result, I think I've written and produced some of my best work yet.

My 1st upcoming album this year sounds nothing like this track, but it does indicate what I've been experimenting with for the past 2 years: vocoders. I've been using them in interesting ways with vocals/synths among other things. It's been a lot of fun.

My plan is to get at least 2 albums out this year, as well as releasing the new Smurker EP that's already done. I'm holding myself to this, since I've been keeping everything under wraps for a while now. This is partially why I just wanted to get this VIP out there.

As you finish exploring the garden, the flowers bloom all around you.

Interesting fact about Bloom: It took around 2 and a half years to finish. I started it November 2016, and have been working on it on and off. Getting a proper chorus was by far the hardest part lol and it went through a million different versions.  I'm really happy with how it turned out though.

This track is about making the most of the current situation I'm in.

From late March to early May, I’ve had a family member in the hospital with COVID19 and it was really messing with me mentally (he finally doesn’t have it now, and is currently recovering in the hospital). I started writing this track back in April as a way to vent my feelings out.

There's a lot of recorded samples in this track that are references to how I've been dealing with this situation. I won't go into detail for all of them, but I will say that the voice at the beginning and end is my cousin. She was recently on the news asking for a donor in hopes that it can help get rid of the virus. I wanted to reference that in this track.
