Que ce soit avec le post-pop-rock de ‘Purr’ à la fin des années 90, en expérimentant sur scène ‘sampler vide’ ou en composant un album plus ouvertement folk en 2006 (A ship, like a ghost, like a cell), Thomas Mery n’a cessé de chercher. Own records présente aujourd’hui son nouvel album : ‘Les couleurs, les ombres’.

Six morceaux, principalement en français, dont l’armature, voix et guitare acoustique, est augmentée d’arrangements acoustiques (clarinettes, trompette, piano, basse, batterie et textures sonores) et où il déconstruit et transfigure les codes de la folk et de la chanson pour façonner une musique aussi moderne qu’intemporelle, personnelle et non référencée. Six morceaux qui rendent compte du chemin parcouru et ouvrent de nouveaux horizons.

Whether it was with the post-pop-rock band ‘Purr’ at the end of the 90’s, by experimenting on stage with nothing more than an ‘empty sampler’ or by turning to a more straight forward folk music in 2006 Thomas Mery has never ceased to search. Own records introduces his new album: ‘Les couleurs, les ombres’.

Six tracks, sung mainly in french, which structure, vocals and acoustic guitar, is augmented with acoustic arrangements (clarinets, trumpet, piano, bass, drums and sound textures) and on wich Thomas deconstructs and transforms the code of folk music to craft his own, modern and timeless, personal and uninfluenced. Six tracks which tell how far he has come and open new horizons.

Thomas Mery is a rare and treasured figure on the French and European music scene. 

He's been a member of the post-rock band Purr between 1995 and 2001.

He has experimented with computers, guitars, sung in english and french, composed songs, and more abstract tracks. He is,  all things considered, a music student.
