Leikas Liebe zur elektronischen Tanzmusik begann 2008, als sie begann, sich auf einschlägigen Minimalparties herumzutreiben. Neue Studienbekanntschaften schwemmten eine ganze Fülle bis dahin ungehörter Sounds an ihr Ohr, sodass von BPitchControl über Telefon Tel Aviv bis Air eine große Bandbreite ihren musikalischen Geschmack beeinflusste. Den Weg an die Player selbst fand sie dann in 2019, als ihr Partner ihr das Handwerk zeigte und sie bereits nach einem ihrer ersten Sets, einem zwölfstündigen b2b-Marathon, hoffnungslos dem Auflegen verfallen war. Seitdem spielt sie mal schnell, mal langsam, aber immer melodiös überall, wo man sie an die Geräte lässt: in Clubs und Bars in Freiburg, auf Privatraves- und festivals oder, wie zuletzt kaum anders möglich, bei Streams. Als Teil des Duos Daeumelin (@daeumelinmusic) produziert sie inzwischen auch selbst elektronische Musik.

INTERVIEW:
1. Wie lange legst du schon auf und was hat dich dazu bewegt, damit anzufangen?
Leika: Mein Herz schlägt schon sehr lang für elektronische Musik, von Minimal bis Techno, langsam, schnell, ich feiere alles (bis vielleicht auf High Tech Goa...). Dabei war immer mein Traum, selbst einmal dort stehen zu können und mit meiner Musikauswahl Menschen zum Tanzen zu bringen. 2018 bin ich zurück in meine Heimatstadt Freiburg gekommen und habe dort schnell Anschluss an die Technoszene gefunden - in die ich mich Hals über Kopf hineinstürzte. Dadurch habe ich viele liebe Menschen und eine phantastische Community kennengelernt. So auch meinen jetzigen Partner, der mir dann 2019 schließlich das Auflegen zeigte.

1.2. Wie hast du das Auflegen gelernt?
L: Wie gesagt, habe ich die Basics von meinem Partner gelernt, dem geduldigsten Lehrer, den ich mir hätte wünschen können. Ich bin ein Ungeduldspinsel, und mich zu entspannen fällt mir im Alltag unheimlich schwer. Er hat mich immer machen lassen, mir nie reingeredet, mich meine eigenen Fehler machen lassen (auch bei Auftritten!), wofür ich sehr dankbar bin. Das war ein für mich sehr wichtiger, weil geschützter Rahmen, ohne den ich mich nie getraut hätte, selbst einmal aufzulegen. Generell finde ich, dass man sehr viel beim Tun selbst lernt. Natürlich sollten die Grundlagen wie Mixing und Beatmatching einigermaßen sitzen. Und der Rest kommt nebenher, je öfter man spielt (und auch Gelegenheit dazu bekommt!). Klar passieren dann mal Fehler, aber auch daraus lernt man ja. Für mich ist das Auflegen eine Spielwiese, Techno und House sind meine Chance, mich fallenzulassen und aus dem Alltag auszubrechen.

2. Gibt es einen Erlebnis beim Auflegen, von dem du uns gerne erzählen möchtest?
L: Es gibt so viele schöne Momente. Besonders in Erinnerung bleiben aber die, bei denen erst einmal irgendetwas schief geht: ein Fader spinnt, der Temporegler springt, irgendein Kabel ist locker. Ich bin in solchen Momenten erst einmal total überfordert, dann höchst konzentriert und kriege erst einmal nicht viel um mich herum mit. Nach einer Weile dann den Kopf zu heben und die vielen Menschen tanzen und lachen zu sehen und zu merken, dass es nicht nur läuft, sondern vielleicht sogar ziemlich gut läuft und die Leute Spaß haben, ist ein unbeschreibliches Gefühl.

3. Was wünschst du dir, sollte in Zukunft in der Clubszene .anders laufen?
L: Gerade in der Technoszene, in der ich mich bewege, hat sich meinem Gefühl und Erleben nach schon gewaltig viel getan. Insbesondere das Engagement gegen Sexismus und Rassismus, für Awareness und Toleranz ist enorm, und ich bewege mich in dieser Szene sehr gerne und fühle mich sicher und gut aufgehoben. Das gibt mir Hoffnung für die Gesellschaft. Dennoch müsste sich auf Bookingebene noch einiges mehr tun: Es sollte...

In these sets Melodic Techno will be key but I also try to create a different vibe each time.

This is the first Chapter out of my musical diary. I couldn't help myself to start out big. So, you will hear some "Golden Oldies" but also some Golden new ones. It is a bit dark, but that doesn't mean the melodies aren't amazing in each and every one of these beauties.

Markantonio’s label AnalyticTrail welcomes an imprint debut from BEC who after making a name for herself on Pan-Pot’s Second State has also releases on Carl Cox’s Intec amongst others of a high calibre.

BEC is one of techno’s leading ladies quickly rising through the ranks of the genre, and with this EP she becomes a part of AnalyticTrail’s roster of artists which already includes the likes of Joseph Capriati, Flug, Matt Sassari and Luigi Madonna.

Originally from the UK but currently based in Berlin, she is also a popular DJ still relatively early in her career and has already played in many parts of the world as far flung as Australia.

Each of the four tracks brings something different to the EP with the title cut having morphing acid and a captivating vocal sample that gives it its title. Still dark and pounding “Eclipse” is a trippy take on a similar set of sounds with the addition of a grinding bassline, and “One Chance” closes things with its melodic synth stabs layered with industrial percussion.
