Halation is the spreading of light beyond it’s boundaries. It is the soft glow. The warm blanket of light that surrounds. A halo.

Thor Rixon's Halation EP features lead single and collaboration between blaqkongo titled 'Walk With Me', followed by 'Minertia'- two house tracks that are ready and waiting for the dark rooms and open fields.


Walk With Me started off with the intention of being a thumping club burner but when we both felt it needed more soul, we made a change for the better, bridging the gap between the vocals and the music to create
something unique, wholesome & driving.
“The lyrics speak to the infinite possibilities we can create if we get over the limitations we set in our minds,
and allow ourselves to “grow wild” rather than “work hard”. In essence, allow yourself to be free and move away from packaging yourself.” - blaqkongo

Minertia is the focus and obsession with small, and in some cases insignificant, details that prevent or slow down the process of finishing a project or task. This track has taken me almost 4 years to complete, with
countless revisions- adding, subtracting and refining the small details until it felt complete. But does a creation ever feel complete? Art is never finished, only abandoned.
I wanted to create a very rich and dense sound scape with this house track by imbuing it with emotive pad work and intricate rhythms that interplay and dance with each other.
I always try to walk the line between home and club, which was a big focus for this track.

“It’s peculiar when the day is extremely wonderful- the sun is out, the grass is green, the birds are singing and the whole
scene is just perfect… but you aren’t. Our mental states & anxieties have a way of crippling us no matter the weather,
and this is to say, it’s okay to feel sad on a beautiful day because you may feel great on a horrible day. The thing we
should always be grateful for is that we are here to enjoy another day.
On the day of recording, I decided to walk a far distance in Berlin to reach Thor’s studio and during this walk, I mused
about what a gloomy day it was, but I didn’t feel gloomy at all I felt great but in tandem, I remembered days when the
day was enjoyable, but I felt terrible. I imagined that people feel that way regularly and I guess this song is an ode to
those moments and those feelings.”

Fill This Room with Fire:
Fill This Room With Fire is the antithesis of ‘Beautiful Day’ in the sense that it captures the feeling of elation in a chaotic
space. The song started as a lazy afternoon sketch on an MPC during a warm summer in Cape Town, South Africa,
which then was recorded and expanded on for months afterwards. The end result is a deep dance track that builds and
fades and flows with many peaks and valleys, getting bigger with each cycle to a crescendo that feels large yet
restrained. The only lyrics of the song ‘Fill This Room With Fire’ were added towards the end of the production process
when the composition reached a point where the elements of the track worked together to ignite a dance floor, or in
other words, fill a room with fire.

Thor Rixon X Lazarusman - Beautiful Day

Pareidolia is a phenomenon wherein we may perceive likeness in objects, as the heart and brain has a tendency to assign meaning wherever it can.

These two tracks, which form the Pareidolia EP, are a snapshot in time between two lovers. They serve as a bookmark in
the long and evolving friendship between Thor and Helena. They have shared very personal moments from their
beautiful relationship and filled these songs with the love and respect they have for each other.

Following the debut Malawi album​ last year, the next series of Beating Heart releases focuses on the vibrant sounds of South Africa, sampling field recordings made by Hugh Tracey back in the 1950s, with kind permission from the International Library of African Music.

Profits from the series will be used to support:​ the Women's Legal Centre, a group of female lawyers striving for gender equality across South Africa, particularly for black women, whose work has had a huge impact on the country's laws, and continues to do so; and the Access Music Project in Grahamstown where students will be able to learn production skills through remixing field recordings from the ILAM ​archive, learning about their heritage in the process.

Thanks to previous​ support, the 'Beating Heart - Malawi' album ​(Rudimental, Kidnap Kid, Clap! Clap!, Luke Vibert, Afriquoi & more) ​h​as​ funded the setting up of a sustainable school feeding program in Lilongwe, now feeding 450 kids once a day.

The first single from a series of tracks that Thor has recorded with his current live set: underground dance-floor burners that are written entirely on analog drum-machines , synthesizers, samplers and  his very own custom built modular synth.  All of these compositions are then recorded to  1/8" tape. There is not a single computer used in this process. The sound is warm, dirty and full of deep groove. 
        You will hear Thor's unique 'lo-fi house' in many of his solo sets, where he performs completely live and improvised.
