The first tune in this set is Arthur Muse's jig, which we found in Bernie Waugh's collection `282 Fiddle Tunes'. The second was written by a friend of Helen, Marie Danzé, who plays in a Breton folk metal band. Apparently she wrote it to appease her violin teacher, after not practising for a week.

This track includes the only Playford tune on the album: Mr Beveridge’s Maggot. It was featured in the BBC dramatisation of 'Pride and Prejudice', and we learnt it from that highly lauded collection of 17th century tunes:  YouTube. The second tune is a cracking Northumbrian 3/2 hornpipe, the name of which we didn’t find until relatively recently. Once discovered, it was assigned to Jason’s arrangement, as his working title, ‘Maggot set’, just didn’t seem quite right…

The penultimate track from our latest album, Pantomime Cannon.

Ruth’s reel is named after Bitterne, an area of Southampton that a local informed us was 'a good place to go to see women fight.’ Paired with Bitterne Distress is a traditional reel called The Acorn, which she found after hours trawling the G major reels on ‘TheSession.org’ for a complimentary tune.

Threepenny Bit are a unique example of how traditional dance tunes and contemporary sounds can blend together into a fresh interpretation of folk music. This raucous 8-piece band combines a group of diehard folkies with some of the finest young jazz and classical musicians in the south to create an exciting live show you won’t forget!

After founding and running the Southampton University folk society in 2011 they formed a busking band to take folk music to the streets for a summer holiday. 3 years, 2 albums and a host of successful concert, ceilidh, folk club and festival performances later the band are still going strong! 2013 saw the self release of their second album 'Cartography' which received great reviews and was nominated for the FATEA awards' 'Instrumental Album of the Year'.
