Knife presents Monix, who has amassed a staggering catalog of music and original productions and recorded under many different monikers. He has been legally blind since around 2008, but he has still managed to adapt his production, live modular sets, and DJ techniques overcoming this battle. Unconcerned with conventional elements of modern techno, Monix's live sets embody relentless and pummeling industrial sounds. Focus is spent on developing dense drones and harsh noise walls with distorted vocal elements and heavy kicks which forcefully defy a 4x4 structure. Monix exposes you to an experience, an exploration of his darkness and unknown visions delivered through his most valued sense of reality and subconscious understanding, sound. His productions are made with analog gear. His live performances consist of his modular hardware setup, but he is also known for his past extensive marathon DJ sets combining digital controllerism with analog gear.

From the depths of an ancient dark underworld, Nigh/T\mare has conjured a powerful offering of burning emotions that light the fires of one’s demons and invite the beginning of an epic journey through the unknown. Via Thrènes Records from Switzerland, this offering is on point with their consistent releasing of top quality industrial/experimental techno. Entitled ‘Katharsis’, this artistically crafted set of tracks in the form a debut album twists and turns its way over tribal rhythms with dynamic feels and beating drums that break down anything standing in the way. A powerful offering from the depths of the soul.

‘Impure’ is a powerful opener, like an army banging its drums and marching towards the fight, this track sets the stage from the drama to come. Like a speeding train through dystopia the injection of adrenaline comes in the form of ‘Self Immolation’ which makes the heart beat with the force of a 100 pounding drums. Tribal percussion keeps banging its way through ‘Anti Balaka’ before slowing into a deep melancholic track by the name of ‘Unarmed’. Slowly building out of the calm ‘Unavoidable Unveiling’ creates tension with droning notes and broken industrial percussion laying the soundscapes. ‘Doomed to Struggle’ Feat. Prophän is a dramatic pushing and pulling of the hard hitting sounds and ritualistic chanting before diving into the galvanic rhythms of ‘The Summoning’ Feat. LAIR. ‘The Path of Moans’ brings the mood to a sombre place where the whispers from the demons below can be heard alongside the chiming of distant bells. Pact Infernal’s remix of ‘Impure’ demands attention as it offers chaos into the fold along with viciously delicious synths. Torn Relics remix of ‘The Summoning’ builds into an onslaught of relentless percussion and deep howls from the underworld which leave you with chills running down your spine. A fitting ending to an impressive array of dynamic tracks, this is an experience never to be forgotten.

Trauma Collective returns to shock to your system on their fifth release, which comes courtesy of Spain’s Rafael M. Espinosa aka Geistform. The Barcelona-based artist, also known for his exploits under the Univac alias, has crafted a singular style that exists at the interzone of IDM, digital noise and electro and having earned him releases on Pi Electronics, Femur and Hands Productions in recent years. 

Espinosa executes five programs in sonic warfare on the Antena EP, all sounding akin to complex bitstream amplification. A multi-level barrage of frequencies play offense on opening cut “Proxima B”, which sets the theme for more widescreen pulsations that gash the senses, as heard on the syntax error of “Note Repeat” and building up to a climax on the monochromatic soundstage of “Norc” - a jagged and angular exploration in bass artefacts and static redux. Exclusive to this digital release is fifth track “Impedancia”, once again rendered in dissonant hi-res sounds and underpinned by glitched and clipped microrhythms. 

Since unleashing the austere techno of Birmingham legend Mick Harris (as Monrella) and hometown hero Kwartz on unsuspecting ears, the Madrid-based collective has now ventured into more experimental spheres, as heard on the off-kilter mentalism of ASC’s Loop Research and the brooding atmosphere of Makunaimadama’s limited cassette release last year. Antena is the logical progression for the label’s next chapter, where it continues to push the threshold of electronic music’s outer limits.

10th episode of Cartel podcast with Mina Lord 

Mina Lord is producing experimental electronic music since 2017 after many years as a drummer in grunge, punk and metal bands. Rather than sticking with one genre, she utilized a whole spectrum of music expression in her own productions to create whole worlds and atmospheres for the audience to dive in to. Her main focus is to create her own sound by recording and designing all her samples herself. Often described as very atmospheric, almost cinematic - she creates music and DJ mixes out of stimuli. A deep interest in the interaction of visuals, space and sound, results in linking these elements together right at the foundation of a project. In December 2019 she had the debut event of her own music and art collective The Twelve Prophets, where she invites and collaborates with other artists to explore the link between music, visuals, technology and space.

Fanzine Records expands in the time-space continuum with the launch of IOR, a sub-label that showcases Roi's most personal vision of his Techno universe: categorical, expansive, with gigantic basses and propulsive rhythms. IOR emerges as a sub-outlet for the increasingly prolific production of Coruña’s native artist.
IOR spreads around dualities: past-future, avant-garde and tradition, inspiration in the homeland (‘Magical Galician’, its myths and legends, misty and humid forests...), and at the same time in the dystopian abstraction of Techno, the confused present and the uncertain future.
The forthcoming EPs will be linked to different characters from Galician history and mythology, as with this fourth release, 'Ith EP'. This dualistic vision of past-future is one of the germinal signs of IOR, where Roi's hefty, opaque and point-blank Techno merges hand by hand with mythological and magical chapters from a remote place at the end
of the Earth.
