Jules & Moss - Timeless | Fenou Bouquet

For the past nine years, Fenou is a sub-division of the renowned Mo`s Ferry Productions and is the epitome of a sophisticated taste somewhere between harmonious Electronica sound and swinging Minimal-Electro. Now, "Fenou Bouquet Vol. 3" compiled by Douglas Greed appears as another exciting showcase on the small but nice Fenou-Rooster and show some new artists who have found their way there!
Founded in 2005, Fenou has soon become a home for hip acts like Kadebostan, Sebastian Russell, Lake Powel, Mooryc, Schlepp Geist and Benotmane and of course producer and label owner Niklas Worgt with all of its projects, such as Dapayk solo, Dapayk & Padberg, and many other who have been established themselves in the international club scene. With the new part of the label compilation "Fenou Bouquet", the series now enters the third round.
"Fenou Bouquet Vol. 3" is compiled by none other than Douglas Greed. The Compilation shows an eclectic track selection and a wide-ranging overview of new developments and upcoming releases of the music of Berlin’s underground. After Marcel Knopf and Dapayk solo Jena based Turntable Rocker proves his knack for this very special kind of "Cute Minimal Electronica" which Fenou devotes itself to.
The first two compilations were a well balanced mix of new exclusive material and older pieces of the label catalog. On "Fenou Bouquet Vol. 3" almost every track is entirely new and largely exclusive. This compilation by Douglas Greed reflects all the stylistic preferences of the bustling DJ and Producer, who has already released on labels like Infiné, Gigolo, Kindisch, Lebensfreude, Acker, Freude am Tanzen or Bpitch Control.
"Fenou Bouquet" bears Douglas' distinct mark: starting from clubby-driving electronica tunes by Jon Donson, Einzelkind, Sebastian Russell, to housy-gentle moments of Schlepp Geist, Klute and An on Bast, followed by floating trance tracks by The Micronaut, Daniel Nitsch or Mollono.Bass to a trippy after-hour atmosphere by Deer and Clara Moto and closing with a slightly darkening track by Swimmingpool.

Jules & Moss - Double False Face (Album Edit) | Thrill Of It

For the latest release from Acumen’s Thrill of It, we’re introduced to the wonderfully weird and out-there sounds of Julien Piacentino & Philip Pioge. This emerging duo have combined on a number of occasions (most recently on the Inside Out imprint) and this release is further indication of their silky studio skills as well as their understanding of dancefloor dynamics. Aptly titled ’Strange Hill’, it’s a weird and atmospheric slice of cultured house that’ll go down especially well during the night’s weirder and more electrifying moments. 

Introducing the release is the sounds of the title track itself. Imbued with a rich, textured and venomous series of twinkling melodies and ghoulish synths, it’s especially indicative of the label’s liking ability to course between different sets of captivating sounds. The first of two remixes comes from Frenchman Butane, himself a more than solid production force and the man behind hits such as the quirky but still effective, ‘Mutation’. Anyway, his mix is one for the purists, as he brings a layered sheen of added percussion to the fore. Even moodier than its predecessor, it’s a more subtle but still beguiling effort. 

Acumen’s remix is a real tech-house groover, and one where rich female vocals and wailing sounds abound from the off. Lastly, we have another original, ‘Cellulose’, which once more Julien Piacentino & Philip Piogemarks as a prodigious duo. All things considered, Thrill of it are starting 2015 off on the same level as they closed out 2014.

Change they say, is the only constant, and after 7 years leading the charge for one of France's most successful labels, Time Has Changed, ACUMEN will now be turning attention elsewhere thanks to a new label, Thrill of It Records. 

While the main man won't entirely be waving goodbye to THC, Thrill of It is a label with a very different way of working. For a start, Acumen will be running the label alongside his wife, Desirée. Then there's the musical policy. Of course, the same components of what made THC so successful, (namely quality, dancefloor driven house fare), will again play a pertinent role, but this time around Acumen is promising more ''deep, melodic and techno'' sounds. 

As Acumen himself says” ''Thrill of It is a label that stands for emotions and those special feelings on the dancefloor. It's important to us that our music stands out from the crowd – we don't want to release just rolling, peak-time tech-house. We want to make music that leaves a lasting impression.”

The label's first release is a case in point, as Acumen delivers the stunning Crush EP, a release that comes primed with remixes from two of France's most renowned upcoming house stars, Danton EEPROM and Parisian duo, Villanova. All play their part with some panache, with the music on offer here the sort of classy, refined output you'd expect from a quartet of French producers. 

The artwork is beautifully adhered to also, with Desi's painting skills proving a beautiful and apt foil for the music on offer. To sum up, Acumen says: “I've been impressed for a long time by labels such as Life & Death, Pampa and My Favorite Robot. Their way of working – from the music on offer right down to their artwork and everything they stand for – is what sets them apart. Now, with Thrill of It, I have a similar label, whereby everything is construed on a similar basis. I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised by what's in store too.” Times may change and new musical trends may come and go, but the most important aspect of Acumen's arsenal – the music – is as endearing as ever.
