Summer is over and the end of 2022 is rushing up to meet us. But we’re just getting started with Throne of Blood’s anniversary releases. Hot on the heels of EP 1 featuring Chloé, Joakim & Max Pask, Justin Cudmore, and Liona, we return with the second blitz of special material for EP 2.

Kicking things off is label fixture and A Love From Outer Space maestro Sean Johnston in his Hardway Bros guise with “The Other Side,” which was the very first song submitted for this series composed in the wake of Andrew Weatherall’s passing. Having been roadtested extensively in pandemic-era ALFOS EBS livestreams, it is finally available to all. 

Rounding things out are tracks from Hapa, a duo of NYC underground stalwarts, Takaya Nagase (Joy) and Eric Pecoraro aka Eric From America (Chomp Chomp Records),new wave acid punk Curses (Ombra International), and West Coast legends Split Secs, 

From slow motion atmosphers to warehouse smashers, EP2 showcases a wide range of sounds and influences that build on our dedication to forward-looking sounds rooted in the history of leftfield dance music. Dig in!

TOBD016 ANNIVERSARY EP 2 Snippets

Throne of Blood continues the anniversary onslaught with the third of four EPs of new and exclusive jams from friends new and old. Following on from the first two Anniversary EPs which featured contributions from Joakim, Chloé, Justin Cudmore, Curses, Hardway Bros and more we deliver more dancefloor material from Pleasure Planet, Man Power, Danse Alice and Teleseen.

EP 3 kicks off with Sisters, all big rave energy owing a big debt to Pleasure Planet’s Kim Ann Foxman, Andrew Potter, and Brian Hersey’s memories of countless pilled-out 90’s era nights. In contrast, Danse Alice, a new project from dear friend and collaborator Remain (Meant Records) come with a slow motion groover, an emotional score for the comedown. Look for more music from this Marseilles-based duo coming soon on Lumiere Noire and Ombra Intl.

Rounding things out is an absolutely monstrous breakbeat banger from Newcastle’s Man Power, an homage to everything awesome about Chemical Brothers and the beautifully groovy “Sacambu” from our friend and long-time champion of the label, Teleseen. 

It's an EP of contrasts, another way to resist pigeonholing what Throne of Blood has stood for over the past sixteen years and a refusal to chase any single sound, scene or trend as we look to the future…

TOBD017 ANNIVERSARY EP 3 SNIPPETS

Throne of Blood winds down 2022 and our 16th year of unearthing oddball anthems and dancefloor smashers with the fourth of four anniversary EPs.

Kicking things off is long-time label affiliate and mega talent Daniel Avery who follows his recent Ultra Truth album with “Ricochet,” a skuzzed-up slice of moody techno.

Next is “Nylon Future,” a massive jam with dark energy from NYC stalwart and label newcomer, Heidi Sabertooth.

The balance of the EP comes from Japanese producers Que Sakamoto and Hoshina Anniversary, who deliver two wildly contrasting visions that express the sonic diversity of the label. “Kakegae” is a wildly psychedelic banger punctuated by odd chimes, acid squiggles, and an insistent groove. “Eiroku,” on the other hand, lands in Mr. Fingers territory, with a bassline that recalls “Mysteries of Love” overlaid with traditional Japanese instrumentation. It’s deep without ever sliding into the predictable or cliché. 

And with that, it’s on to the next… Keep your eyes open and your ears dialed in. There’s more to come from Throne of Blood!

TOBD018 Anniversary EP #4 Snippets

Tecwaa is the solo project from York-based musician & DJ Paul Fawcett. With broad influences from early noughties Yorkshire raves, Detroit Techno & horror movie scores, the producer’s sounds are hard to pin down and bracket to any one particular genre. 

Exploring the intersections of chugging psychedelic, deep house, slow-disco & dub techno his evocative tracks specialize in that hard to pigeonhole late night/early morning sound, upending club dancefloors and soundtracking afterparty sunrises. That breadth is reflected in the four originals he’s crafted for MeO Notion, from mid-tempo acid breaks on “Many Fallen Skies” and “Solaris” to hyperspeed almost-jungle via “Long Past the Echoes,” and the utterly halucinogenic digi skank of “Î Terra Dub.”

With two mind-melting LPs for Scando powerhouse Höga Nord Rekords, as well as singles for Les Yeux Orange, Futureboogie and now Throne of Blood to name a few, we’re so glad to kick off 2023 with Tecwaa’s latest and dare we say greatest release yet.

TOBD019 TECWAA MeO NOTION EP SNIPPETS

Rafael Cohen aka Los Latidos was born in Mexico City to Guatemalan parents. He grew up in the DC punk scene, and released records on Dischord and Touch and Go. He has also played and recorded with jazz legend Anthony Braxton. 

Currently he tours the world and writes songs as a member of Warp Records mainstays !!! and has written and recorded a collection of more intimate songs in Spanish under the name Las Palabras.

This is his second release as Los Latidos and his first for Throne of Blood. His previous release, on Jun Records was described as “a feast of acid squelches, breakbeats and house kicks” by Resident Advisor. “Please Believe Me” is built on the same foundations but expands the palate somewhat with acoustic guitars and field recordings. 

The vibe is warm and hypnotic, recalling the breezy vibes of old school Throne of Blood artists Cosmic Kids. With three jams that range from low slung acid grooves to gently jacking house underpinned by a hands in the air bassline, Los Latidos has delivered a soundtrack to summer dusks and dawns.

All tracks mixed and mastered by the one and only Justin Vandervolgen.

of jams paired with two exceptional (and
wildly different) remixes from LA mainstay
Daniel T from the Cosmic Kids and Parisian
legend Crackboy.

Kicking things off is the slow-mo stepper “The
Letter,” which pairs an iconic and hopeful
vocal sample with an outsized bassline to
create a monster afterhours groover. For his
remix, Daniel T takes “The Letter” poolside in
Los Angeles, brightening things with joyous
afro-tinged organs and tambourines sure to
set late Summer daytime jams aflame.

Reknowned for his offkilter take on
dancemusic, Crackboy drags “The Letter”
deep into warehouse techno territory,
scrapping the warmth of the original, upping
the tempo and delivering a brilliantly distorted
dancefloor firestarter.

“Wild Billy” rounds out the EP with its
widescreen take on robodisco, equal parts
sex and menace sure to set the vibe right

It’s a great honor for Throne of Blood to announce our latest signing, the legendary Justin Robertson. A veteran and pioneering personality within the UK electronic music underground for close to 30 years, he brings an utterly distinct music point of view to the label family.

On the My Sweet Machine EP, Robertson returns to form with his vaunted Deadstock 33s project (Skint, Gomma, Darkroom Dubs, Optimo Music, Batty Bass, Tigersushi, Paper Recordings Is it Balearic), turning in four original slices of slow-motion machine funk built for the dancefloor. “Axial Age” starts things off with an arpeggio that sounds like “Crockett’s Theme” gone dark, body music for goth ravers. “My Sweet Machine” maintains some of the menace but lightens the mood. “No Thing Ness” ups the tempo, its rhythmic drive tethered to the dancefloor by a heavy bassline and wonky synths. “Van Van Mojo” rounds out Robertson’s originals with an off-kilter house groove purpose-built for festival dancefloors. Closing out the EP is a storming remix from long-time friend and collaborator Moscoman (Disco Halal, Diynamic, Life & Death). The Berlin-based Israeli revisits “My Sweet Machine” stretching the groove and transforming it into a head-spinning psychedelic trip.

Roe Deer's latest missive from Vilnius is a message from 2017, back when days were wild, dancers were free and the main problem was - no problem. Three tracks dedicated to one of the weirdest trips of Liudas's life. Hints to listeners and fellow travellers: Palanga, “Auska” Hotel - we were not expecting this! What remains is music of these plague times. 

“Lost Again” is a clumsy jam from a one man band. It feels like you already found the way out, but it takes you back. 

“Young Cats” is about the creatures sneaking around your window at midnight, and won’t let you sleep. So the only way forward is to dance. 

“Machine” is one synth solo story. Things are boiling all the time here, so no time for excuses. It’s ON!

Remixes come from a crew of label newcomers we've long admired: LA duo Club Tularosa, Philadelphia's Zillas On Acid, and Indonesian powerhouse Jonathan Kusuma.
