Unspoken

This song was an attempt at writing something wise, which might have been a bit of a reach at 𝟐𝟏. What do you truly know about life at that age, unless you've experienced something extraordinary? But I had been thinking about what it is to be ostracised and misunderstood, and I was looking for a way to express my support to those who go through that.

The music started with my affection for added ninth and suspended chords, and this composition is consequently loaded with them. The words had their wee beginnings in early 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟓, but I put a lot more work into them when I knew I'd be auditioning for 𝐋𝐈𝐏𝐀 and decided to bring in a recording for them to hear. I tweaked them even further after the recording was done. Anyway, as I recall, there was only time during the audition to listen to the first two songs on the tape, and this was the third.

I would say the song holds up all right after 𝟑𝟎 years, but I'd do things differently now. Of course. All creatives want to redo some detail after the fact, nearly all of the time. Don't they?

I was really happy to collaborate with Anne on this beautiful song of hers. She brought along her guitar and gorgeous, ultra-precise voice. I just threw in the other bits and pieces and hoped for the best ... Oh, and if you're wondering, it's also Anne doing that pitch-perfect whistling halfway through :-) A very talented lady ... On a side-note I find that she has a delightful way of pronouncing certain words that I initially mistook for a Scottish accent (though I can place Friebourg on a map ...). I hope that doesn't get me into an international riot with either Germany or Scotland ... or both :-/
