Burning Man, where to even begin...Being surrounded with 80.000 beautiful idiots made me feel right at home. The experienced sense of freedom and spontaneity will always be a part of me. Thanks to Robot Heart & Mayan Warrior for allowing us to play a B2B unlike anything we’ve done before and to Playground for being the warmest possible home and allowing us to end it all with a seven hour B2B on the Fun House. It was just perfect.

Victor Ruiz, a dynamic selector with a deep appreciation for music, crafts compelling sets full of vigour and vibrancy.  A Brazilian now based in Europe, he has been a constant presence on the world stage since 2013, mesmerizing audiences with his DJ performances at influential events. In the studio, he releases top-notch techno productions showcasing his distinct musicality and energy. Victor's upbeat approach is evident in his arsenal of edits, including iconic tracks like 'Breathe' by The Prodigy and 'Everything Counts' by Depeche Mode. With a lifelong dedication to music, Victor Ruiz is hardworking, talented, and driven by passion.

Inspired by his brother's love for heavy metal, Victor learned to play multiple instruments and joined bands during his formative years. He pursued electronic music production in university, drawing influences from Daft Punk, MTV, and Fruity Loops. As a DJ, he refined his skills through challenging experiences, learning in the field without decks at home.

Victor's profile in Brazil skyrocketed with a big hit, leading to performances at major festivals and venues, connecting him with international selectors. In 2013, his first European tour marked a turning point in his career, exposing him to Europe's progressive club culture. His international profile grew rapidly, eventually leading him to relocate to Berlin in 2018.

Currently, Victor Ruiz travels the world with a busy schedule of gigs, delivering powerful performances that entertain and challenge the dance floor. He has gained a massive global following, captivating audiences with his musical odyssey. Victor's studio work on labels like Drumcode, Noir Music, and Suara showcases his playful attitude and unique sound, influenced by various genres. His music reflects his identity and serves as an invitation to get to know him better.

Still playing the bass guitar, Victor remains deeply passionate about music. He appreciates the simple things in life and approaches his craft with humility. His goal is to inject positive energy into the lives of his listeners, providing them with moments of self-expression, escapism, and catharsis. Victor Ruiz continues his lifelong mission with a smile, an open heart, and an open mind.

Techno don Reinier Zonneveld looks set for a massive hit with his latest track, which reworks the stunning melody made famous by PPK’s 1998 smash ‘Resurrection’. 

Zonneveld made his remix of the trance classic to play in his live sets, and it proved to be so popular that he felt it simply had to be released. He and his team set about trying to find the rightsholder of the original melody so that they could license it. 

This journey led them not to PPK, but to the original composer: the now 82 year old Russian electronic music pioneer, Edward Artemiev. He wrote the melody for the soundtrack of a 1979 movie called ‘Siberiade’. Zonneveld wrote him a letter asking if he could grant him permission to release his take on the melody. Listening to Reinier’s new interpretation of ‘Resurrection’, Artemiev was immediately sold and approved it to release. 

One of the earliest composers to adopt the synthesiser, Artemiev has a pioneering legacy that lives on through this new version that has been so skilfully crafted by Zonneveld. 

Moving on to the track itself. Pummeling old skool hardcore techno kicks thump under filtered layers of bubbling synths as an ominous tone is set early on. The melodic elements tease in tense fashion as layers of hissing percussion build on top. Flashes of the distinctive riff are sparingly deployed. Then suddenly the swell comes, rising pads and dramatic synth riffs fuelling the fire as cymbal rides urge us forward. Snare rolls and acidic textures build the tension further before the rug is pulled from under us and we’re thrust into the dream-like sounds of that famous riff. 

Sounding as enchanting and otherworldly as ever, these cute interweaving melodic lines soon transport you to another dimension. Filtered kick drums and heavily reverbed pad sounds interplay with percussive builds and rising acid tones, suggesting an explosive drop. Instead, the minimal approach is chosen, stripping the track down to its bare melodic basics and letting the famous hook shine. Further glorious melodic subtleties lift the track again and snare rolls push higher, but the track never reaches for excess and continues to tease throughout.

Resurrection is out now on Filth On Acid.
