Anyone who has dived into the murky world of underground electronic music has undoubtedly come across The Bunker New York, which has established itself as much more than a party thanks to Kasenic's dedicated hard work. Through years of careful curation, renowned events, records, and podcasts, The Bunker has evolved into a community founded on connection through otherworldly music. 

With the launch of the sublabel Going In in 2020, Kasenic decided to promote the realms of long-form music compositions suited for more meditative moments. With 14 releases to date, he has transformed his devotion to alternative musical forms into reality. His Unrush contribution is a palpable display of this passion, turning his prowess as an experienced selector into a ruminative passage of sound that transcends time and space. For a good while, I did not think No Way Back would be a streaming event for the second year in a row, but as it became clear that was what was happening, I had to start thinking about this set. This was the opening set of the 36 hour stream, which gave me a lot of space to build things up incredibly slowly. There were a few things I knew I really wanted to include like the DJ Plead, Plastikman off "Consumed", the two Kocmoc tracks, and "Untitled #35" in tribute to Jasen Loveland. The rest was just connecting those dots to make it all work. I recorded this in one take by the stream outside my house in the Hudson Valley. I thought I would have shade for the whole 3 hours but found myself in direct sun halfway through as I started recording later than planned. The sun was sort of melting my brain and made the CDJ displays really hard to see but somehow I think it just added to the vibe. Deeply looking forward to finally reconnecting with everyone in 3D space at Tangent this Memorial Day weekend.

"This mix is a continuation of a set I played at the Berlin Philharmonic in February. The tracklist is somewhat different, but the idea very similar: I was looking to integrate some scattered individual incidents across two decades of electronic music into multidimensional dialogues with some precursors and oddly fitting acoustic works since the 1970s. So this is how you get a Speedy J track from 2000 into two musical exchanges at once – with Tony Williams Lifetime and Nana Vasconcelos on one side, and the rhythms of Ena and DB1 on the other. Or Barry Altschul with Jeff Mills, and Source Direct with Michael Ranta."

This hybrid DJ / Live Set was recorded in a yurt structure at the Freerotation Festival in Wales. This time my idea for the set was to take us all much further out, much deeper inside than the set from last year. A more disembodied experience. 

As I had done last year, I sat on the floor in front of the speakers to perform instead of behind them as a DJ normally does. This greatly enhanced my feeling of experiencing the set with the audience, dissolving the usual performer / audience divide.

Berlin-based Resom’s meandering electronics have guested the Bassiani Podcast a couple of times, here she gets lost in thought once more for Zenaari Mix 005. This one’s far from a wool-gathering exercise, her selection and mixing are deep, provocative, and wonderfully percipient, little else to expect from someone whose path has encompassed so many different areas. Her work confidently mines a wealth of experience across club residencies and activism, and delivers results that are a pure joy to witness. This one covers every base, from softly gliding synths to slightly more controlled percussive meditations, an exploration of heterogeneous bleeps and ruminant echoes, a dreamy IDM waltz that's worth its weight in silicon.

Cult party turned record label The Bunker is posting up at Output this Saturday, bringing along Matrixxman and Delft head honcho La-4a as the night's headliners. (The latter will also be making his New York City debut.) Also on the lineup is Alessandro Cortini, who is apparently "a synth hero to the founders of both The Bunker New York and Delft," and who will kick things off with a rare live set...

The Bunker New York began as a party, grew up into a record label, and has become a collaborative community, fostered by founder and curator Bryan Kasenic since it’s launch in 2003. "I have been tasked many times with opening No Way Back. It's quite fun to play with the energy in the room as it goes from empty and chill to full and heaving over the course of my set. This year was obviously very different with NWB being a stream where my set started at noon instead of 11pm. I had been quarantining upstate for months with my friend Otis Mass (Massive Original), and we decided to pair his visuals to my set to do something special with the format. Without any real pressure to get a dancefloor moving, I decided to start things off very slowly and build things up for Mike Servito's set. It is always an honor to be a part of No Way Back, and this year was no different.
