Hard Corps Je Suis Passè (BENZIN BERLIN RECUT)

Offset (a.k.a. Philippe Juven) takes his cues from the Detroit techno of pioneers like Derrick May, Carl Craig, and Drexciya-­‐affiliated  project Dopplereffekt, as well as post-­‐punk/industrial outfits Joy Division 
and Front 242. 
On this latest outing, opener “Disturbed” invents its own strain of sci-­‐fi nu-­‐disco, with brassy pads and an infectious, looped bassline. Fittingly, Norwegian DJ/producer and affiliate of Prins Thomas’ Full 
Pupp label Jarle Bråthen supplies a title-­‐track remix.  
 Rounding out the EP, “Pikes Peak” features punchy, big-­‐room drums, suspenseful builds offset by paranoid arpeggiators, and hazy, dystopian pads, while the funked-­‐up electro of “Wolf Gang” gives way to a melancholic, cold-­‐wave chords and a hive of detuned synths.

The Parisian duet delivers a subterranean music which oscillates between Rock and Psychedelic Old Wave 
via two mesmerizing compositions, in tones at times dark and cinematic.
The whole is engraved on a numbered transparent 7" limited to 100 copies. Artwork, printed on Canson drawing paper 224 gr by St.Ritz (RIFF RUFF - CLUB RADIO).

A remix appendix to Jennifer Touchs last year EP-Debut on Riotvan. A record, on which essentially everything has already been said. That´s why it is not astonishing that the assemled adaptations do not necessarily evolve the sound narrative of „Feeling C“ but rather revitalise the spirit of the originals in various clubscenarios.

Best example is Curses reinterpretation of „Sell“. An uncomplicated and straightforward floor absorption with the base of a stoic kick and monotone bass foundation. What almost triggered Valerie Dore-Memories in the original version now seems to sound more like a Anne Clark-Hommage with the reduction and the very urged vocal parts.

An even more radical approach is chosen by Chinaski for his interpretation of the title track. The coarse beat substance is almost searching for a link-up to it´s source. But the reduced tempo, the all in all decelerated arrangement and the synthbass-drone that strides through the whole track, transform „Feeling C“ in a score that probably rotates high on Darth Vaders Playlist.

Panthera Krauses approach to „Wordless“ is comparatively careful. Also the break from the 4/4-frame and the reflection onto some of the more distinctive marks of the original. Not to miss: the shift into a different, a little more translucent frequency range.

Subsequent, it´s Touch himself, contributing a revision. Her remix of „No One“ could easily be interpreted as a dub-version. Reduction of the vocal parts, purification of the whole arrangement, explicit rhythm-emphasis. Less events on the surface. But a lot more bounce.

Concluding is another version of „Wordless“, this time from Llewellyn, who lets his already on Riotvans last publication shown sympathy for washed-out Disco-Tradition get the upper hand again. Herefor he invokes of a Synth-Arpeggio as well as a every resistance breaking beat that will find it´s safe place in the more aesthetic segments of todays obvious Disco-House-boom.

So here we are with Riotvan's second installment of the "Familiar Faces", showcasing what's happening with the label these days (a lot), making label-residents shake hands and welcome affiliated folks to the syndicate. Although this is a 'various artists'-format, the here gathered stylistic approaches and track-turned mindsets make a strikingly coherent body of work. Just another evidence of how Riotvan has evolved into a renowned think tank of likeminded artists and indicator of state of the art sonic bliss. 

Kicking off we find Perel immersing in yet another synth-driven stream, seeking continuation to her latest, widely praised full length-cycle, but this time bypassing Venus or rather "Super Venus" while floating off to other otherworldly dimensions.

Next in line are Black Spuma, i.e. Lauer and Fabrizio Mammarella, demonstrating via "Drumbaeck" what a match in Neo-Disco-heaven they are. A highly energetic beat, laying the grounding for a cheerful synth-hook and harmonies you won't get out of your head anytime soon.

Same goes for "Tropical Redux", the follow up by none other than Panthera Krause. A particularly elated affair, carried out by a funked up bassline and a catchy string-theme, sticking its neck out in Disco-realms, while maintaining a primetime-adjusted groove.

At this point it's about time for a premiere. Say hi to New Hook, an all-female power-force with their debut release. "FXART" comes as a well-versed exercise in reviving frigid 80ies leanings with a contemporary urgency and attitude. And that's just a glimpse on what's to come from Linda, Ilka and Juliane.

Chinaski, definitely no stranger to the Riotvan family, is taking on the 80ies vibe and hands in "Zeichen der Zeit", an unhasting ride through various galaxies, combining nostalgic synth-aesthetics with spaced out futurism.

Closing things off, it's label-mainstay Jennifer Touch cutting deep with "Bleed", an almost existentially emotive composition, exploring spiritual abysses lyrically, re-modelling emotional chaos within the overtones of the arrangement and even trimming things down to physical functionality within the track's progression.
