Premiere: Glimpse 'L.E.D.'

Gregor Tresher kicks off 2015 looking to break new soil with his first ever full release for John Digweed's Bedrock Records.   

Last year was as hectic as ever for the Gregor and he came into it on high from the success of his artist album Nightcolours and having closed out 2013 by releasing an astonishing Laurent Garnier remix of the title track, on his own imprint.   Time to relax a little maybe? Not a chance. January saw the remixed version of the album hit the stores and this was backed within a few weeks by 'Taurus', Gregor's enticing collaboration with Petar Dundov. The summer saw him remix the Chymera classic 'Shadowdancer' and he closed 2014 with the superb 'Midas / Disturber' double-header.   

Somewhat of a musical chameleon, Tresher is as at home creating deeper shades of house for the likes of Moon Harbour and Ovum as he is techno rhythms for Music Man, Cocoon and Drumcode.   With label boss Digweed a huge fan, Bedrock is yet another perfect fit for the German and he opens his account with the mighty, melodic and Kraken'esque 'Goliath' and the razor-sharp lightning bolt that is 'Stormblade'.

The heavy hitting four track EP shines a light on Sangiuliano’s tight, thundering production skills. The hoover heavy lead track ‘Moon Rocks’ is packed with booming percussion, intricate synths and brooding crescendos. A return to the source: ‘Ribcage’ is where it all began for the Dubfire project. After years of exploring, subverting and setting brave new benchmarks in the house world, this marked the start of Ali Shirazinia setting out to set the same creative benchmarks in techno. Restrained, drawn-out but beastly when it wanted to be, the original was a serious statement of intent. Even at the time you got a sense it was going to be a historic tune. Loco Dice especially felt that when he signed it to Desolat 10 years ago.

To celebrate this time-flying milestone, Dubfire’s recruited two of the most respected names possible for remix duties. First up, the unstoppable, unavoidable, unquenchable Dense & Pika who keep within the dramatic rising template but with a whole new set of instruments and textures… And a percussion palette that absolutely sizzles when the whole groove kicks in mid-way. Phenomenal.

Hot on their heels comes a unique remix invitation to On-U legend and one of the UK’s most decorated and treasured studio controllers Adrian Sherwood. Turning in a serious techno re-cut that pays tribute to every element and takes over 12 minutes to make sure they each shine amid the head-twisting pools of tripped-out decay, it’s clear his time with Pinch has had a profound effect.
Two incredibly well considered and detailed remixes that remind you what remixes should be… Brave new chapters of a story we all love being told. These will sound great when the 20th anniversary remixes are commissioned in 2027.

Ramon Tapia drops his first solo outing for Truesoul with the classy ‘Manipulate’.

The recent outstanding form of Ramon Tapia has been too good to ignore for Adam Beyer. In December the Belgian dropped the powerful ‘Hexagon’ as part of the Truesoul V/A EP, and with Beyer’s attention on lock, follows up swiftly with the excellent ‘Manipulate’ EP.

The title track embodies the ethos of Truesoul to a tee; a crisp and groovy work that straddles the divide between house and techno, it’s a late-night burner that shines courtesy of a dark searing electro bassline and pin-sharp drum work that builds up to a deliciously nasty finish. Its accompaniment is ‘Adam and Eve’, a punchy peak-time cut elevated by an energetic vocal, atmospheric pad and energetic melody line that has it begging to be dropped during a euphoric festival moment.
