Over the past 6 years WOLF Music have earned their stripes as stalwart purveyors of refined House and Disco. Now, in the follow up to Medlar and Greymatter’s debut LPs and EPs from the likes of Ishmael, Ossie and Casino Times they ready their 3rd LP from Dutchman Frits Wentink.

Now residing in Amsterdam, Frits has a glowing back catalogue of soulful, Lo Fi club material that’s touched Heist Recordings as well as WOLF in the form of his ‘Mouse’ and ‘Goose’ EPs. With an experimental approach to hardware and instrumentation, his work blooms naturally through jams and improv and in this - his debut LP: ‘Rarely Pure, Never Simple’ we see a development in this experimentation to enlivening effect.

Working with a meld of grubby samples, chunky percussion and the frequent vocal accompaniment of Utrecht based Loes Jongerling, Rarely Pure Never Simple is a journey through Frits’ influences forged into a cohesive pack of grooves and interludes tinged with a certain charming nostalgia.

The past year has seen Swiss producer Lemonick rise from relative obscurity to the fore of the club music world, releasing efforts on Nervous Horizons, Clubwerks and Car Crash Set, all while cultivating a bare bones, hybrid style that’s almost immediately recognizable. “Locked Groove” represents his arrival in the Symbols Download Series, a track that balances the rambunctious feeling of East Coast club forms with a serious, spaced out sense of sound design, all topped off with enough lick-driven funk flair to keep you moving throughout.

CoOp Presents Sivey, with an all-new double-header of heat, ‘Nobody Else’ and ’Somebody Samebody’. For those that don’t know, Manchester-based Sivey came to some notoriety in the future beats scene a couple years back, releasing music with the LA-based collective Soulection, as a solo artist and via collaborations with Evil Needle, which came to fruition after a series of online beat battles, as well as releases and remixes drop on labels like Astral Blackand Ninja Tune.

The recent resurgence of the broken beat movement was something that also inspired Sivey, admiring the balance between musicality and danceability.  Eager to share the results with the world, it made perfect sense for his first bruk offerings to find a home at CoOp Presents.

These two tracks exemplify the ever-evolving progression of Sivey’s sonics : the familiar deep keys and synth sounds of his previous productions are there, but nestled alongside more uptempo grooves, and the lush rhythmic complexity of bruk.  As well as the original tracks, IG Culture provides a dope bruk-funk flip of ‘Somebody Samebody’ to close out the set. 

IG Culture is a London musician and performer best known as a pioneer of the broken beat movement. His production features rhythms and hybrids of several musical styles such as jazz-fusion, funk and soul. He recently won the liftetime achievement awards at Gilles Petersons Worldwide Awards 2019 and is currently heading up the CoOp presents label alongside Alex Phountzi.
