SAGA | CHAPTER ONE

The end of 2024 draws to a close and I offer up the seventh version of my yearly mixtape.  It is a pleasure to do these mixes each year and I never really know where they will end up but centred around pieces of music that I picked up over the year, that caught my ear (tracklist below).

This time it leans towards a lot of my own edits made especially for the mix, a few yet-to-released remixes and beautiful music from all over the world. I think there is definitely a focus more on precious, moving music and less towards the dancefloor. Hard to explain why, I tend not to overthink these mixtapes. 

To give you a bit of a look behind the curtain I painstakingly craft each of these mixtapes using Ableton, treating it more like an extended production than just two tracks mixed together. I end up with a sprawling mix of tracks, acapellas, synths, samples and founds sounds. A kind of patchwork of sound. Though only 21 pieces of music this session somehow grew to 162 different racks, from cumbia rhythms to kicks to take a track into a new place.

2018 has been a crazy year - filled with moments that could make you lose hope in humanity but also little glimmers of hope. 

This mix just kind of happened, as the best musical things do. It is music from all over, old and new, electronic, acoustic, downtempo sped up, uptempo slowed down, mixed together, weaved in and out, criss-crossed and faded into a journey. Music without borders.
